Then you have Vitiate, who also happened to know far more sorcerer, alchemical, and ritualistic techniques than Sidious.
Vitiate had a millennium to delve into Sith lore, not to mention he absorbed far more life force than did Palpatine in his time.
Vitiate needed no prep to mind**** Scourge into shitting his pants.

Listen, a fully-fed Vitiate, DE Palpatine, or Darth Nihilus could all solo any team of Jedi you can list under normal conditions.
Those three were masters of the greatest Sith secrets, aka Force drain.
I say under normal conditions because the only time a Jedi beats a dark side nexus on their scale is when they're weakened and that Jedi is a light side nexus being momentarily amped by the Living Force.
The Sith desire power, so they can use the dark side to get it and keep it. The Jedi only obtain unnatural power temporarily, to defeat the unnaturally powerful as their plans fall apart due to the machinations of the Living Force.

It'd contradict itself if you took any statement about one Sith being the most powerful ever literally. That means Sidious>Plageuis>Bane>Vitiate.
