We can know this because the Ravager didn't fall apart,if he would have died,the Ravager would have been desintegrated in a few moments.
His armor was transported on Korriban for burial,and Nihilus' spirits touched the dark side nexus and remained there.
Later we see him in Legacy,when Darth Krayt summons Nihilus',Bane's and Andeddu's Sith holocrons.
Presumbly,after he arrived on Korriban he encased his spirit from his armor into his holocron...
