The trailer is out. That.... was the last thing I expected. I wouldn't have even thought it was RE if not for the end title. On one hand, it definitely looks like they returned to full out horror. On the other... Well, watch the video.
First person? I...I don't....
GAMEPLAY
I'm not okay with this. Yes I wanted the horror element to return badly but not have it outright remove weapons, boss battles and the third person view in a Resident Evil game of all things! This is just Capcom capitalizing on the popularity of Outlast and PT and used by Sony to promote their VR tech. It's a good thing that Resident Evil 2 Remake is in the works.
The guys at reddit have found a lot that suggests it will still have guns and weapons, as well as a stealth feature possibly. I'll give it a good chance. RE is returning to its horror roots, which is something I've wanted for a while. Not like this, sure, but its worth giving a solid go.
The demo is up on PSN btw
I played the demo so I thought I'd give my thoughts.
My first thought is that it did have an RE feel to it in that you find your way around a horror location (domestic in this case like Spencers mansion) and look for keys to locked doors and random items to open other objectives and solve puzzles. It feels like a super distilled form of RE in that they completely cut out the action aspect and ramped up the horror. The demo is definitely scary (like PT levels of scary; the sound design really keeps you on edge, so play with surround sound or headphones), so it accomplished that well. The fact that the menu also has an aim assist makes me think that there will be guns and other weapons you can find (you can find an axe in the demo). It just starts off with the character being completely defenseless.
The ending also confirms BOWs (specifically zombies), so all the RE aspects seem to be present with the exception of third person. 3rd person is a big deal to me, but not enough for me to condemn the entire game. People wanted horror, and they got it. I'd take what I got in this demo over RE5 or 6.
Looks simply amazing, if you ask me.
RE4 rebooted the franchise with action horror 3rd person over the shoulder game play and it worked wonderfully, but it was played out with RE5 and especially RE6.
I'm actually excited to see how this plays out.
Bring back the horror.
*edit* I'm downloading the demo now, but my Internet is so slow today for some reason.

It's not like I'm trying to find an excuse to dislike RE7 and be a hypocrite now that the horror I've been crying over for years is finally back. Being a nostalgic fanboy, I was anticipating for the return of something equivalent to the classic RE's style of play. But hey, if they bring back the combat as Arachnid theorizes and the protagonist's first person perspective doesn't make it feel like CoD, I'll happily embrace this.

Because due to E3, there's a lot of traffic going on both Live and PSN resulting in slower downloadings. I'm having the same problem myself just simply downloading a Killer Instinct update.
The demo is f*cking creepy, man.
It doesn't have the Resident Evil flavor, I must say. Very reminiscent of PT.
Maybe Capcom is taking a break from the tired, old, same Umbrella angle and just going back to old school horror roots with a
Spoiler:
crazy, hillbilly, mutant, maniac farm family.
It sure would be a breath of fresh air, if you ask me.

Also, I'm not sure who the chick on the phone is. If I had to guess, its Alex Wesker, and she is behind the whole experiment.
I wonder if Capcom saw how big of a bungle Konami made by scrapping Silent Hills and decided to capitalise on that idea.
I find it pretty fascinating that they've swerved from the action shooter mechanics of the previous games and seized upon the popularity of the new breed of horror games that came from Amnesia, Outlast etc with their first person spook-fests.

Except that
Spoiler:
Alex Wesker is dead. She was killed in Revelations 2 set before the events of RE6 but I won't be surprised if somebody found her research as the infected in the demo do look like they were exposed to T-Phobos. Maybe our villain is a grown up Natalia. Isn't she like Alex's clone or something?
