While choices didn't matter with the ending, they mattered throughout the series.
Not in 3 they didn't.
EDIT: The Tuchanka arc has stuff that matters I guess but that's more or less it, and even then it gives you an obviously better way of going about it as opposed to the other/Salarian way.

Knowing that you have legitimate family makes me hope when the inevitable moment comes that they are threatened with death, you can save both father and brother/sister.
I disagree with this. I think one of the issues with 3 is that it allowed a bit too much of having your cake and eating it too. In too many cases there was one obvious solution that was better than the others.
Example - Quarian/Geth storyline. You were able to broker a truce between them which relegated what should have been the most difficult choice in the entire series into something you didn't even have to really worry about because it could all but be avoided. This is part of what led people to complain about the catalyst's claim of synthetic and organic war being unavoidable because Bioware allowed you to do just that in this instance. Being forced to choose between the Geth and the Quarians would have rendered these specific complaints moot, as you would have been shown that indeed peace was impossible. It also just makes these choices less powerful and important. Witcher 3 did all this well, you can't avoid making tough choices in that, and often there are no right choices, just two bad ones. I hope Bioware goes back to this with ME4.
For many people, the Virmire decision is one of the most memorable parts of the series, and it's precisely because it's a difficult decision that you can't get out of, this wouldn't be the case if you were able to avoid it all together.

Unfortunately for those anxious to see more, we’re going to have to wait until The Game Awards show this year to get it. You may have missed it, but at the end of the trailer, it mentions that the gameplay reveal will take place during The Game Awards 2016 show and has a link to the show’s YouTube channel.
Happy N7 Day, everyone!

Slick trailer, didn't really feel like Mass Effect, though.
I agree with the trailer. It looked pretty damn great. Or at least the visuals, design and sound were pretty damn great.
I do find it funny that you mentioned that it didn't feel like a Mass Effect game.
It's not because your opinion on the trailer but how it differs from other commentators. From what I've seen on other websites, the popular opinion is that it's just "another Mass Effect game". I wonder how much backlash the trailer will get is based on the trailer itself or just the continued blowback from ME3 and EA.
The game looks like it will still have the epic moments that I associate from other Bioware games while gameplay looks like it will go the "survival" route that is popular nowadays. But the trailer does looks pretty good and I'm very intrigued to explore the new universe. It's a smart move that they didn't stick with conventional thinking regarding setting/place.
