And Manhattan's actual screenfeats, when compared to someone like the Silver Surfer or Superman are pretty shit. Especially considering that on paper he has the best and most versatile powerset, with the only other character rivaling him being the Silver Surfer.
Anyways, the Surfer wins this thread.

There is really no way to accurately measure Dr. Manhattan since he was written that way. However saying he cannot die is clearly speculation. Not being aware of a way in which he can die is a more accurate statement.
From Superman, Thor or Silver Surfer, what could they do to destroy the universes quantum field?
Ok. Lets’ put this battle into perspective:
• First off we are applying the intrinsic field and quantum field rules and theories from Dr. Manhattan universe to all the other components universes.
Since that is the main thing going for Dr. Manhattan, so be it for this thread.
Superman has in the movies shown the ability to enter, become part of, tear an opening and go through, the intrinsic/quantum fields of the universe when he went back in time using his own powers. This is the biggest weapon I feel that Superman can use against Manhattan. Since Superman has shown this ability it is very possible that he could do something in reference to the intrinsic/quantum field of the universe and hurt if not kill Dr. Manhattan.
See speculation with examples and reasoning.
Now I await the Dr. Manhattan speculative response that will have no examples and simply say he vaporizes Superman.

When did superman tear open and go through intrinsic fields? This is not Manhattans method of survival, its one of his powers. The quantum field cannot be destroyed.

more to the point, superman would have to find doc's 'soul' (for lack of a better word) within the quantum field. just being about to affect the quantum field is not equivalent to him being able to snipe doc out of existance.

When he went back in time. Granted the director displayed the earth going backwards and forward for a visual display.
However, superman did not only cause an opening in time and space he went through it. Quantum field definitely comes into play (opening a rift in time and space) as well as intrinsic field since superman when through time with his own body.

Well we really do not know since we do not know all the rules for the quantum field theory in Dr. Manhattan's universe. However, the point is that Superman has shown the ability to affect the quantum field and to ability to have his intrinsic stay intact or come back together by going back in time using his own body.
So he definitely could have an chance of attack or affecting Dr. Manhattan in a negative way.
but it's not definite. it's as you said first. "we really don't know".
does doc exist as some easily targeted trans-dimensional orb or does his life force inhabit a larger portion of or even the entire quantum field?
remember that he was simultaneously on earth and mars. was this the extent of his range of simultaneous existences or a miniscule sample?

Of course it is not definite. We really only have limited information on the Dr. However this is all speculative. The intrinsic field rules that exist in Dr. Manhattan’s universe may not even exist in the universes of the other components but for the sake of this discussion we are assuming they do.

Those are all good questions but let us not forget the point being made, this match is not so one sided as many Dr. Manhattan supporters are making it. Two superman does have a point of attack.

Manhattan Existed in DC universe. Same one as Superman, the same rules that apply to Superman apply to DM.
i think kotor has a point that superman conceivably has the brains and the ability to pose a possible threat to doc.
however it's ultimately just one more purely speculative "what if". since there are more "what if's" in this topic than you can fit in the grand canyon, imo it was stalemate from the beginning.
i only choose doc since it takes far more of a stretch of the imagination to project a way to defeat him, as opposed to the probability that he is truly "the indestructible man".
