hyga is a total phukk up. It was supposed to be Hyuga as in Naruto manga.

My WoW name was an even bigger disaster, because I got to be moderately popular as a blogger and podcaster. Had I known, I would have thought a lot harder about it when I made the character.

hmm, since we're all getting so chummy, be cool to hear why some of y'all chose your usernames. i'd just finished reading gates of fire (if you've not read it i envy you--you so much to look forward to) and, well, leonidas was a simple choice, really. i've since read the book 3 more times....

but...scoobless?? wtf kinda name is that? blair wind? there are quite a few i'd be interested in hearing the origins of.

😮

Ok, I've been asked this before, here we go...

When I joined KMC (10 years ago) I tried to use a couple different names I had used previously on other sites, all of them were unavailable (copying f--kers) and I was not just gonna stick numbers at the end of a name someone else was already using.

It got to the point that I didn't know what name to try next.

In the UK we have "rhyming slang", eg:

Dog and bone = phone
trouble and strife = wife
Raspberry tart = heart
etc...

So, Scooby Doo = clue
and I didn't have a clue what name to use, so we say "I didn't have a Scooby"

So I was, and forever more am, Scoobless.

It wasn't a serious name choice, but it was available. Later I did a Google search for "scoobless", most of the results were me.

🙂

I chose Galan because back when I joined this site, Galactus was pretty much the only character I knew anything about... Thought I was really being clever to use Galactus' real name as my screen name. 🤓

I don't have a good reason for any of my names, which is probably why I've had over a dozen. ermmnone

'Smurph' just sounded funny, I think.

Your current name is pretty cool as well, friend.

really? i thought for sure your current name was taken from the magazine. i think it's published by york university. i figured since you were canadian, maybe you were in toronto and so finally decided to settle down with a name. apparently not. 😂

that is f'd up. appropriate, but f'd up, ya bloody wanker.

Mine is my real name, translated into English.

85 is because 8+5 = 13, which is my real age.

Is Badabing the shortest person on Kmc?mmm

I think they technically qualify as a 'midget'.

Used to. I've been sober about 2 years officially (account lapsed), and for all practical purposes more like 3 years.

But in my heyday, I was a serious raider, my guild had a couple server firsts, I led our Alt run, and I guest blogged/podcasted (and later ran the site briefly and was a regular host) for a semi-popular WoW website. I was in deep.

I miss the community, the events we ran (a few with several hundred people in attendance), etc. But not the grinding.

Ah, you stopped somewhere in Cataclysm. Can't blame you, WoW declined hard during that time. I only recently stopped playing myself. What made you stop?

Oh, are you on YouTube then? I'd like to take a look at that.

I miss it too, but it just got too monotonous I guess. The people are cool, the world is cool, the game is fun, but after a while it all just blended together for me. I spent a lot of money on that game >_<

Was part of one of the top 5 guilds in my server, but the grind made me start to hate the game... It just wasn't fun anymore.

Not a bad choice at all. 👆

Technically I played into MoP, but not terribly long. I think I subbed in on some runs for my guild, but nothing regular.

I stopped bc of time. I don't like to play casually, and I didn't have the time to take it seriously anymore. Professional projects and my then-growing (and now active) social life just got to be too much. Since then, I've actually gone a step further...I haven't played a video game at all for about a year.

I am, though what I was primarily known for was incredibly niche, so you're going to need some context. The class I played was Hunter, and the site I wrote/podcasted for was dedicated to hunters. Eventually I became a sort of catch-all blogger on hunters, but initially my expertise was pet tanking...the side venture of hunters wherein their pet main tanked instances and/or raid bosses, while the content was still relevant. The video below is a world first, and received the most notice of any of my videos (including a feature on WoW Insider). It's me pet-tanking Sindragosa from WotLK. This was when ICC was still endgame, and Sindragosa was still a challenge for many guilds. It's more notable bc the usual strategy called for two tanks, and my pet solos tanks it in the fight:

You can tell its age because it maxes at 480p. 😂

Yeah, when I was INTO it, it was amazing. That's just not sustainable with anything resembling my current adult life.

Sick video. I have a soft spot for hunters, since it was my first serious class. I had no idea pets could be that OP though lol. I guess it was just a matter of giving it a try.

Also: YouTube video you deserve a medal.
