Don't visit this shit while at work, that's for sure.

I remember that troll that would post porn on KMC (in the OTF). I was at work and porn was posted. That actually pissed me off. Genuinely rustled my jimmies.

This thread would be equally jimmy rustling if I still worked for the Federal Government.

No worries there; I'm unemployed. In my former job, I had an office to myself, so that sort of thing generally wasn't a problem. Though I was busy enough that I rarely had time to idly browse anyway.

But yeah, good general advice at least. I'd love to see a boss's face looking at this thread title.

What chums? So far, 3 other posters have openly admitted that calling an Indian a slum dog is a derogatory racial slur. You are the only one who disagrees for some strange reason.

Anyone on this board that does not like you would probably agree with TE's point that it wasn't racist specifically to spite you. That is what I meant, sarcastically, with the word "chums."

There aren't many people on this board who dislike me for any particular reason though.

What if it turned out your boss was Quanchi?

That'd be pretty cool. 🙂

If I got a report from one of my ISSOs that one of my direct report employees were visiting sites (or viewing bestiality porn) that talked about bestiality, I would not care IFF* that employee was at a desk that was not visible from a person walking by. Thankfully, our security policy on PC setups, which I dictated about a year ago, says that PC monitors in desks and offices must have the backs facing the aisles to prevent shoulder surfing to protect our client's PII and SPII. This is also to prevent complaints to HR that someone is viewing something offensive...because every office has that annoying piece of shit that worries far too much about what everyone else is doing and likes to tattle-tale to HR.

I'm like really ****ing smart n'stuff. uhuh

But, no, seriously, I do not care what my employees are doing at their desks as long as they get their periodic work completed and their responsibilities in projects done before the deadlines. I try to hire highly capable individuals who are self-motivated and have high-performance in their job expectations. I have hired many people over the years and have been horribly wrong, twice...which humbled the utter living shit out of my ability to judge character.

Also, why the **** is someone as smart as you unemployed? Is this a problem for you? if it is not, then it does not really matter if you're unemployed.

*Me use of that has caused confusion, in the past. So this is what I mean when I posted that:

Pretty sure that a number of KMCers post even during office hours. I know, because I am one of them.👆

Quan seems like he'd be a very laissez faire boss.

I am not shocked that you post on KMC from work:

Nope.

But I do post on KMC form work only because work comes in waves, for me (some days are slow and some days there is not enough time to do everything). But I have the luxury of having free and unlimited access to the internet at work because I use a personal hotspot rather than the company's internet connection.

Employee:"I can complete some-random-office-assignment in less time than the required deadline!"

Quanchi:"Based on?"

Not liking the job doesn't mean that I am not good at it. I put in a couple posts from time-to-time during daytime, but never let this kind of sh1t compromise the work ethic.

Also, my work situation is more or less similar to yours.

You hit it on the head: it's all about getting your work done. If it's on time, and it's good work, I would think most bosses wouldn't care. That said, it can be disease once caught, so I always tried to avoid it unless my day was really slow.

I do know what IFF is, but thanks. I have some programming experience, and, among other things, had to be pretty heavily into HTML (and a bit in Wordpress) in my last job.

As for my joblessness, thank you, first off. I don't hide my intelligence. Nor do I flaunt it, but it's there. Would that it could more easily translate to monetary success, but statistically, there isn't a marked correlation between intelligence and wealth. Or happiness, though I have less trouble there. Sadly so, in either case. But that's rather beside the point.

It's a recent thing, and wasn't from lack of skills or interpersonal conflict. My position was eliminated in a staff restructuring. So...yeah. Not much to be done. I left having made many friends and with good references, so it was about as amicable as could be expected. I'm about a month into unemployment. I've had one interview so far, which went well and will likely result in a follow-up. And a few other promising leads. But no job offers (yet).

The chief hurdle is that a cover letter and resume can't market a person as well as I'd like, even in the hands of a good writer. And with many positions, that's all they'll see at the start. There are other problems, though, which have undoubtedly limited me some. My work experience and degree don't match, and at the moment I'm at 3 years in my field...a couple short of the magic 5 that gets your foot in the door at many places. So it's a struggle, but I'll likely land on my feet soon.

@Digi: Am I right in presuming that you have completed your postgraduate education?

Nyet, comrade. Just a Bachelor's. I've waffled on more education, but it's likely an eventual necessity if I want to progress meaningfully in my current field. I was actually doing research on online Masters degrees to start in the spring. My layoff halted those plans, though hopefully they're just on a temporary delay.

I differentiate intelligence with "smart." You want to hire smart people, not necessarily intelligent people.

For me, an intelligent person can figure out an error in a report and points it out, with a solution, immediately, to all relevant parties in a broadcast e-mail or in a meeting. A smart person figures the same thing but points it out to the person who built the original report, discreetly. I think you fall into the latter camp.

But, yes, you not having a job makes sense if you're the victim of more layoffs. I've been there, done that. Here's hoping you get a placement, sooner than later.

That's a good distinction to make for work purposes. My position was in communications, and it was a small enough staff that my job was very broad. I was responsible for all manner of messages, so I'm nothing if not socially and professionally aware. I'd hope to fall into the latter category, as you say.

But again, thank you. I'm not the most qualified candidate applying to many positions. But I have a broad range of marketable skills that, I hope, translates to some good offers. The holes in my credentials will limit me until I can correct them, so the next few years may be more trying than I had hoped. But the eventual "plan" - Masters degree; steady, well-paying job in a major city; etc. - should still be attainable within a reasonable timeline.

If you haven't already, read Charles Bukowski's short story "Animal Crackers in My Soup"

wow for a second i thought you guys really debated the merits of ****ing animals for 12 pages

Yeah, they all have very good particular reasons.

I'd just like to put into this subject. Its only okay if the animal is a dam sexy beast.
