it seems like you're ignoring an important question, though. cause in dealing with military interventions you have a number of possible options and yea it can work or not work and you can regroup and try something else, etc.
what if america abstains from intervention and this does nothing to impede the growth of the islamic state? what is our plan then? if your stance is that it is their business and basically up to them if they want to have an insane theocratic dictatorship, then i guess doing nothing is the reasonable approach.
but if you want to maintain that our goal should be to try to prevent that from happening then i think you have to give a better argument for why you think a lack of american military intervention would actually lead to the end of isis.
