Yeah, but then you're not factoring in the possible DVD/Blue Ray sales that can cancel some of that out.WB didn't heavily market Focus, because it was a smaller film, which made it's production budget back. It was a modest success.
DVD & Blueray also has distributor & store costs.

Overall, I don't think they spent too much on marketing. I barely even knew about the movie until a few weeks before the movie came out. I'm searching for the numbers, though.
Will smith doesn't have the "pull" he used to.
These are his last 5 movies that he has a part in. And their ratings.
56% Focus
13% Winter's Tale
11% After Earth
31% A Man's Story
69% Men in Black III
Thats pretty bad. Only reason MB3 even was decent. That was most likely because of help from the other supporting cast in that movie (Brolin, T.L.Jones) and the recognizable Men in Black name than his "star power""

LOL! He was hardly in Winters Tale. Focus did well as I just mentioned and MIB 3 made big bucks overseas.
Like I've been saying, he doesn't have the star power he once had, but he can still pull an audience overseas.

Calling $700mil WW is just crazy at this point. That's Captain America TWS money. Not that it can't pull a GOTG type miracle, but actually expecting that from this movie is nuts.
I don't think it's crazy at all. Most people who like Batman will probably want to see it, because it continues the Joker saga. Then you have Will Smith. In all likelihood it all depends if it's good or not.

Not saying it's Impossible, but I sure wouldn't bet my money on it. Whether it makes that kind of money or not, looking at WB/DC's past record it's way too Optimistic to call that much at this point in time IMHO.
I mean heck even MOS didn't make that much.
What might give it a chance to make that kind of money though is if Affleck kills it as Batman, and everybody loves him. And then if Jared Leto kills it as Joker as well, then it will easily be able to draw in a lot of cash.
But we'll only know that next March, so like I said at this point, that's a very very hopeful box office call.

Agree to disagree. Even Will's most horrible movies (After Earth) made money overseas. MOS made good money, considering it opened around the same time as Despicable Me 2, WW Z, and Monsters University. And ultimately made a lot on DVD/Blue Ray.
