Revan vs Darth Maul

PART 1

Revan

Revan was a highly skilled combatant, particularly with a lightsaber. He was skilled at deflecting and redirecting enemy fire with his lightsaber, and his abilities were bolstered by his gift of precognition. He often made use of acrobatic maneuvers in combat, bolstering his body's natural abilities with the Force in order to increase his effectiveness. Among Revan's greatest victories was his defeat of Mandalore the Ultimate, the leader of the Mandalorian warrior culture and a feared warrior in his own right, in single combat. On Korriban, Revan single-handedly defeated a pair of massive terentateks, and defeated dozens of Dark Jedi and Sith during the Jedi Civil War, not to mention his own former student Darth Malak. While he normally wielded a lightsaber, Revan was also proficient in the use of firearms, as he made use of blaster weaponry during his time as a Republic soldier and while fighting in the Taris dueling ring. He also retained these skills later in his life, making use of a blaster while posing as "Avner" on Rekkiad.

Revan was extraordinarily powerful in the Force, even as a young Jedi Knight. After becoming a Sith Lord, Revan's power grew as he studied the dark side of the Force, and after his forced redemption, the man quickly retrained himself in the ways of the light side at a rate beyond that of a normal Padawan. At the height of his powers after he had recovered his lost memories, Revan was able to channel both the light and dark sides simultaneously, and as a result Revan could unleash the Force in its purest form by opening himself to both sides of the Force in battle. By drawing on the Force, Revan could bolster his natural physical abilities, increasing his speed and strength and allowing him to perform acrobatic feats impossible for normal Humans.

Revan was a master at telekinesis, utilizing the Force to manipulate the environment and his opponents by pushing or gripping objects of beings with the Force. His skill with telekinesis was such that he could hurl a heavy stone object at a moment's notice, and on Dromund Kaas the Jedi Master destroyed a large stone archway from a great distance with just the power of the Force. As a Sith Lord, Revan also utilized the Force to choke opponents, as well as the ability to violently crush their internal organs or bodies with the dark side. In battle, Revan often threw his lightsaber and guided its path with telekinesis. Revan's strong will allowed him to mentally influence the minds of others with the Force, force his will upon them, and even steal their knowledge. Despite the immense strength of the Sith Emperor's will, Revan and Malak's own mental strength enabled them to partially free themselves from his mental control, and Revan spent several centuries influencing the Emperor and pacifying his desire to attack the Republic.

One of Revan's greatest strengths was his skill with Force sense—the ability to sense other beings, their feelings, impending danger, or even the future. By 3954 BBY, Revan believed that he should have been able to sense the presence of Meetra Surik, one of his most trusted generals, from even across the galaxy, though Surik's severed connection to the Force prevented this. Farsight and Force visions were a common occurrence for Revan, and even in a heavily drugged state, the Jedi was able to glimpse the future and see that Surik was coming to rescue him from imprisonment. Revan was proficient at using the Force to directly heal his wounds without seeking medical attention. He also possessed the ability to use the Force to resist the effects of poisons and drugs, though he was not always able to overcome their effects completely. Some of Revan's additional talents included the ability to use the Force to slow the minds and bodies of his targets, and replenish his energies by feeding on them.

After becoming a Sith Lord, Revan became a practitioner of Force lightning, and he continued to be proficient in its use throughout the rest of his life, using it against his opponents in his final battle aboard the Foundry. His skill with the destructive applications of the dark side was such that he could summon Force storms, and Revan also became proficient in the use of defensive techniques in order to counter both physical attacks and the Force powers of his opponents. Revan was capable of absorbing and redirecting energy, as he did when he absorbed Darth Nyriss's storm of Force lightning with his bare hands and channeled it through his own body before redirecting it against her and burning her to ash.

Revan was an exceptionally capable strategist and tactician, and some believed that he was single-handedly responsible for the Republic's victory during the Mandalorian Wars. Revan's skill as a battlefield commander earned him the undying respect of both the Mandalorian and Echani warrior cultures; the Mandalorians saw as a supremely worthy foe—one that both embodied their philosophies and showed them their weaknesses. The Echani, on the other hand, believed that Revan represented the epitome of what one could achieve in the arts of war, and that his skill was born out of a highly advanced battle precognition.

Revan spoke and comprehended a variety of languages beyond his native Basic: Mando'a, Binary, Huttese, Shyriiwook, and the languages of the Selkath and the ancient Sith. Revan also tore the Rakatan language from the minds of the Black Rakata, allowing him to comprehend their speech.

Revan was also a skilled mechanic, exhibiting a natural talent and interest in machinery and droids as a young Padawan. Revan's preference for droids confounded his teacher Kreia, who came to believe that it was a result of Revan's desire for subordinates who followed orders unquestioningly. Revan constructed the sophisticated assassin droid HK-47 on his own after the Mandalorian Wars, and even after losing his memories, he was able to repair the droid and restore HK-47's access to most of his memories and combat protocols. A skilled pilot, Revan could draw on the Force to aid his situational awareness, and he proved adept at racing swoop bikes after defeating the veteran racer Redros on Taris. He later won both the Arkanis sector and Manaan swoop championships during the search for the Star Forge.

Through both the Mandalorian Wars and the Jedi Civil War, Revan wore his trademark mask and robes; only Malak, Shan, and the Jedi Council were able to recognize Revan without the mask after he was defeated and redeemed by the Jedi. Revan utilized a variety of lightsabers during his lifetime; when he first adopted the name of Revan, he carried a saber with a violet blade, but he utilized a cyan-colored lightsaber during most of the Mandalorian Wars. As a Sith Lord, Revan wielded a red-bladed lightsaber that he crafted himself, and also utilized a set of robes that had been created by the Star Forge and provided more protection than standard armor. The redeemed Revan made use of a blue lightsaber once again in his battle against Darth Malak and the Sith, though he had changed either the crystal or the entire lightsaber by the year 3954 BBY so that the blade was green. After being freed from stasis, Revan once again utilized a violet lightsaber until the time of his disappearance at the Foundry.

When Meetra Surik spoke to Kreia about Revan, she was quoted as saying "Revan WAS power. It was like staring into the heart of the Force."

I'm going with Revan based on the listed feats so far.

PART 2

Darth Maul

Darth Maul was a highly skilled lightsaber duelist, trained by Darth Sidious in Juyo, which drew heavily on volatile emotions and the dark side. However, Maul only devoted himself to Form VII's physical focus, desiring pure physical victory, rather than the "higher" Sith tradition of Dun Möch; dominating the opponent's spirit and exposing his inner doubts through taunts and psychological warfare.

However, after being reborn on Dathomir, he had employed Dun Möch during his rematch with Obi-Wan Kenobi above Raydonia. In addition to this, Maul had training in Niman lightsaber combat and the Jar'Kai dual-saber technique, as well as mastery of the fighting style of Teräs Käsi. Because Niman was based on chaining Force powers into lightsaber sequences, Maul could adapt to his surroundings, simultaneously hurling objects at his opponents as well as charging them. He had also shown some skill in Ataru, as shown when dispatching a Trandoshan under Jabba's employ in his escape from Cog Hive Seven. Like his arch-nemesis Obi-Wan Kenobi, he incorporated a spinning attack move in his lightsaber fighting style. His speed was such that even Darth Plagueis himself was astounded by it.

When fighting multiple opponents, Maul extended the second blade of his lightsaber to form a saberstaff, doubling his lethality as Jedi rarely faced such a weapon, or a skilled practitioner in its use. Maul often used this to catch opponents by surprise. Maul had constructed the weapon himself, using ancient plans stored within one of the holocrons that the Sith still possessed. He had based his lightsaber design upon that of Darth Zannah's weapon, which in turn had been a development on Exar Kun's original design. It is likely that this choice also came from his species' penchant for the zhaboka, a similar weapon.

Unlike the traditional dueling techniques of most Jedi, Maul combined his swordsmanship with martial arts and hand-to-hand combat skills—a combination which made him a nearly unstoppable dervish of destruction. And whenever he encountered a foe he could not best through his martial prowess, he would fall back on his tactical know-how, outmaneuvering such enemies. Maul showed some skill at applying mounted lightsaber combat, though such circumstances were rare during his time. All of the known examples involved him riding a speeder against one or more opponents: two Black Sun sentries, a lone Bartokk assassin, Anoon Bondara, and portions of Boss Ganne's Gungan army.

Darth Maul was one of the very few living lightsaber duelists who was powerful enough to duel Darth Sidious alone for more than a few seconds. During their ferocious duel on Mandalore, Maul used both his lightsaber and the darksaber he had taken from the slain Pre Vizsla. Ultimately however, he was no match for Sidious, and was disarmed after a failed bladelock.

When the Prophets of the Dark Side pitted a copy of Maul against Darth Vader as a test on Kalakar Six, Maul was able to bring Vader to his knees.

Maul displayed a reasonable amount of competence in telekinesis, utilizing Force grip and Force choke while interrogating Hath Monchar, and being able to activate a set of door controls behind him with a flung piece of a wrecked droideka, which aided him in his duel against Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Whenever he felt it necessary, he could telekinetically pull weapons away from multiple opponents before finishing them off with his lightsaber. He had even developed the use of saber throw, assailing his weapon at a target with deadly accuracy. Sometimes, he would lift heavy objects, such as boulders.

Occasionally, he could add Force-based attacks in his lightsaber sequences; he wouldn't hesitate to dislodge foes such as Kenobi with a Force Push, if given the chance.

Maul was proficient at Force speed, allowing him to move "five times faster than a hundred could travel at a dead run." It could help him push his way through an overwhelming crowd. Despite Darth Plagueis' assumptions to the contrary, Maul could hide his Force signature, even while in close proximity to the Jedi Temple. He was able to use the mind trick, especially when working undercover. He was capable of using Force sight to enhance his senses. He could utilize Battlemind and Force rage to increase his fighting form.

Maul also demonstrated a resistance to Force lightning, shrugging off a barrage unleashed by the Nightsister Mighella while hunting for Alexi Garyn. This ability was only effective to a point, however, as Darth Sidious was perfectly capable of torturing Maul with Force lightning.

Maul was skilled in combining Force talents with mechanics. Sidious gave him the funds and schematics he needed, and provided his apprentice with a secret facility on Coruscant in which to work. There, Maul constructed his signature speeder bike Bloodfin and the Dark Eye seeker droids. Using the Force mechanical skill mechu-deru, the Zabrak modified the protocol droid C-3PX into an assassin droid to guard his ship.

When crippling the Black Sun syndicate, Maul came across the bodyguard of Vigo Narees who in turn attempted to read his mind in order to find who sent him and who he was hunting. Maul let him, but the Iktotchi was soon incapacitated because of the darkness of the Zabark's mind. Maul then neutralized the guard.

After his return and cybernetic reconstruction, Maul's abilities were still as sharp as ever. He used Force scream twice during his duel with Asajj Ventress and Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was also able to Force choke a Falleen without even facing him, and then brutally twist his head 180 degrees. Later on, he compelled a guard into committing suicide by having him blow up a bomb, killing himself and a large group of his fellow soldiers stationed at the mines on Moorjhone. After that, stunned Trisjon's heart, slowly killing him.

As to how Maul survived, Jedi Master Salmara believed that it was Maul's hatred of Obi-Wan Kenobi that kept him alive, making him a far more powerful and dangerous adversary than he was before.

On Moorjhone, he used the Force to pull a section of the wall on his pursuers; though Salmara was able to protect Jaboag's soldiers from being crushed. During the skirmish on Florrum, he pulled a several-ton Eta-class shuttle off of a hill, where it slid to a stop in front of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Hondo Ohnaka's pirates. Maul was also proficient at Force Choke, and used it in conjunction with telekinesis against his enemies, including Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Despite his strong Force abilities, however, physical combat was where Maul was in his element. Oddly for a Niman practitioner, Maul was known to dislike integrating Force-based attacks into his lightsaber combat technique, as he preferred to overcome his opponents through pure martial prowess. After his cybernetic reconstruction, however, he became far more willing to use the Force in combat, though he typically only did so as a fallback option.

Due to his Zabrak heritage and his intense training at the hands of Darth Sidious, Maul was able to withstand immense amounts of physical pain.

While usually preferring to wield a lightsaber, Maul had sufficient skill with a blaster. At age fifteen, he managed to hit his fellow students, Fretch and Hubnutz, in both their right arms with a stun blaster during a training exercise.

When Maul grew older, he shot a Nikto in the forehead and squarely hit a Phuii in the neck in his raid against Black Sun.

Maul had also mastered the use of the lanvarok.

Sidious also gave Maul the powerful Sith Infiltrator Scimitar which contained a cloaking shield generator. This vehicle was developed by Raith Sienar, the man whose company would later develop the TIE/LN starfighter for the Empire, and Darth Tenebrous, who had trained Darth Plagueis.

Ok, official debate, start now!!

There's no debate to be had really. Revan is Vader tier and breaks pretty close to a Vader that is well above Maul.

Well Vader got much more powerful after that. His peak (ROTJ) version would TK Maul's ass.

...Since when has TK ever actually killed a significantly powerful force-user?

I went with TK cause that's Vader's most potent ability. He got more powerful in every way possible not just his TK.

...Maul is no push-over in terms of TK either, dude.

Plus, his Saber combat will come through very well in this match-up, Revan's good, but he's no Maul.

Maul still died. 😬

And it was pre-prime Vader.

How did that comic end? Oh yeah.

With Maul dead on the floor.

Did you read it?

Not that it's canon either way. Maul was brought back in TCW before Legends was separated from Canon.

T-Canon>C-Canon

Yes, but Maul was able to bring him down before he was killed.

Regardless, this isn't about Vader, it's about Revan. Maul outmatches Revan in terms of Saber Combat in EVERY WAY.

Revan is Vader level. Maul may have an edge in sabers, but his Force showing in no way compare. Maul is behind Dooku. He honestly can't hope to compete.

Revan dominates.

...So Revan ALSO has 80% of Darth Sidious' power?

Do you think someone 1/5 of Vader would be able to help Vader stalemate Sidious?
