Its their only defense. Reviews be damned. My family and I went and saw the movie and contributed to its success, as we have done to numerous other CB movies, but this movie offers no return viewing to us. It just wasnt a very good movie. Its a financial success, but how good was it really? This is why I said the critics reviews were on point,

Good enough to have a better multiplier than bvs or civil war. Looks like the general audience liked it.

That's like.. You're opinion dude. Most people I know had fun with it. Which is our opinion.

I'd say it's more desperation to cling to critics reviews who've just voted Moholland Drive as the best film of the 21st century:

https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/aug/23/mulholland-drive-david-lynch-21st-century-top-films-bbc-poll

Or RT scores which gives a 60%+ score to Spider-Man 3 😂

Here we're talking about a comic book movie with no previously built franchise name like SM3, and not starring any well known comic book names either like Superman Returns (which incidentally flopped at the box office).

So there's literally no reason for this to continue being no.1 at the box office, except for decent WOM amongst audiences.

And yet its not. The majority of the reviews for the movie are lukewarm.

This movie has had absolutely no competition from the outset though. It couldnt have been released at a better time. Its beating what,,,,Sausage Party, Pete's Dragon, and now the predicted bomb Ben-Hur? There's no reason why it shouldnt be number 1 right now.

They're reviews man. There's what 200-300 critics total who vote on RT?

You honestly think that represents your general audience. The same critics who gave Spider-Man 3 a decent score? And TDKR an almost perfect score? Really?

Staying no.1 3 weeks in a row is impressive at any time. BvS didn't manage it and also had no/little competition.

But People are still watching it, so there's obviously decent WOM.

Don't forget Star Trek Beyond, Jason Bourne, etc... CW didn't have that much competition, either, and it still had bad legs.

Didn't The Jungle Book, Angry Birds, The Huntsman, Ratchet & Clank, and Keanu all come out right around CW's release?

Though, honestly, it's been a down movie season besides a few bright spots (like The Jungle Book).

That's not a lot of competition, TBH.

If anyone could predict a BAN coming....It would be Stilts.

🤣

i'm glad SS is doing great. although there are flaws, it goes to show just because critics dislike it doesn't mean it can or should influence audience from checking it out, making that whole "vs Rotten Tomatoe" debacle look ridiculous, as it should.

It wound up being not a lot of competition in retrospect (though The Jungle Book pulled in just under $1B and Angry Birds pulled in about $350M), but when you also take into consideration that these were all children's films, as well as Zootopia still being on it's $1B+ run in theatres at the time, and Civil War being released right after BvS which muddied the comic book film waters with it's mixed fan response and negative critical response, and yet it still did $1B for business (contrasted with X-Men: Apocalypse which came out 3 weeks later), I don't see how you can say that this current Suicide Squad run, with the movie climate we have now in August, compares favorably for Suicide Squad vs. Civil War. Jason Bourne's only done about $300M of business. Sausage Party's maybe gonna hit $100M in it's total run, and Star Trek is at about $250M after 4 weeks. There's not another big money draw in the theatres right now.

I posted like 6 other popular review sites that are not rotton tomatoes that said SS was mediocre or bad.
Its not just the RT boogie man.

Here they are

Also General Audience scores are even less accurate.
SS and BvS has 10 out of 10 GA scores even before the movie strated screening or was out to the public.

Which is why box office legs and Blu-Ray/Digital sales later on and even later on OW box office for the sequel are all much better indicators of how audiences reacted to a film.

That's how we know people dug up something new like GOTG. Cause it had insane legs at the box office, sold exceptionally well on home entertainment, and I guarantee the GOTG2 will have a Huge opening.

We wouldn't know how much audiences loved GOTG just from review sites though that's for sure Lol

Yup. BVS for example has been #1 on DVD/BR sales for 4 consecutive weeks. Impressive. 🙂

I don't care if reviewers or the general audience liked it or not.
I thought it was mediocre and had tons of flaws. So in this case I agree with the reviewers.
I would have seen it anyhow. Regardless of what reviewers or the GA think.

Extended cut gimmicks. Just like SS will have a Joker extended cut to sell Blu-rays

Theatrical Cut, or Ultimate Cut?

Ayers said there wouldn't be an extended cut

Hmmm, just like there will be an extended cut for SS? 🙂

BTW, DC Entertainment released this today.

DC Entertainment Planning 8-Hour Livestream Event in September

The 4chan rumor said DCE will release casting/directing news in early September. George Miller on New Gods, Sam Raimi on SHAZAM, Alfonso Cauron on Green Lantern Corps, release date for Ben Affleck's solo Batman movie, and so on. Probably won't happen, but I can dream.
