Just finished watching the season and, first thoughts are that it is, overall, better than season 1, but only because of a few brilliant stand out episodes and performances.
The decline in Matty - Foggy - Karen time, made it a much less endearing and warm show, more like a Christopher Nolan marathon (especially so, with the predictable finale, where the score felt like it had been lifted out of Dark Knight Rises). Not that that's a bad thing, just that Daredevil had managed to raise the standards far higher than that.
Foggy was great, Karen beautiful and brilliant in her transition from office bod to investigator to reporter ... Just so smoothly done without ever making you feel as if she was a plot contrivance type character.
I loved The Punisher. Never liked Jon Bernthal, in TWD (didn't/don't really like TWD for that matter), but he really made Frank Castle come alive and made you feel for him. That's both a testament to his performance as well as the general writing around the character (Marvel has always been very strong with The Punisher, imo).
The whole moral dynamic between DD and Punisher was awesome, really got you invested in both perspectives and
Spoiler:
Reyes' death
felt like such a euphoric moment that I almost leapt out of my chair - I've never come to despise a fictional character that powerfully, that quickly and that unashamedly! -- it was magical.
That said, the big intricate plots were all a let down.
Spoiler:
The Blacksmith turning out to be a simple drug deal, unconnected to The magical shit of The Hand
, boring. Though I am glad it was resolved quickly.
Sadly, The Hand arc turned turgid as soon as it circled in and around Elektra.
Spoiler:
The Black Sky was a huge disappointment. Elektra generally, was boring and borderline insufferable. Almost sunk the entire season with her and her tale.
What promised to be some larger, monumental, centuries spanning movement, turned into a game of hide and seek with a little girl. It seemed such a waste of potential and needlessly brought Matt into the centre of things, whereas earlier the show had built up this clear view of Matt gnawing away at the fringes of something he neither comprehends nor has the character to deal with adequately (leading to the need for people like Stick, Punisher and even Elektra).
Spoiler:
Wilson Fisk is the ****ing best thing about DareDevil, season 1 and 2 and it is was his storyline, his scenes with Frank and DD, that really lifted the average for the season, beyond that of season 1.
