Demo for Bangai-O Missile Massacre.WHY HAVE i NEVER HEARD OF THIS GAME??
People talked about Resogun, or Super Stardust Ultra, or Geometry Wars, while this gem was sitting neglected on the 360.
Think I may buy it tonight, 9 bucks is a steal, its that good.
I'd recommend checking out Omega Five. It's a side-scrolling shooter unlike the others, but it's cool having individual characters with different abilities. Many of the others are available through my current digital subscription, but Omega Five is forever locked in Xbox Live Arcade. 🙁
Triggerheart Exelica, Deathsmiles, Otomedius...
And Trouble Witches Neo! I almost forgot that one. Those last ones were more the "cute 'em up" type of stuff, but they were awesome. They had more mechanics than just shoot, boost, and bomb, and the characters felt different for more replayability.
Omega Five looks right up my ally. Gonna start with that and work down the list of recommendations, since I still have to break in Judgement Silver Sword, Eschatos, Crimzon Clover, and... *Sigh* Raiden IV.
Raiden's ok, but runs pretty poorly. Need to play in Windowed mode to avoid lag, and still seems jittery.
Unfortunately, when I click on the MS store site, I get an error message.
Will try it from the console, hopefully it isn't delisted.
Felt like Bangai-O Missile Fury kind of reminded me of something, and realized it's Scoregasm.
Same bite sized leveling system, same hints at start of stage, both have a projectile nullification system (Scoregasm simply cancels out bullets, while Bangai-O MF has a "burst" that can reflect attacks back at enemies in all directions, or be directed.
They're different enough in other ways, but I wonder if Scoregasm was inspired by Bangai-O?

Yeah, Omega Five is gone with the wind.A shame, its probably not popular enough to justify a port.
This is one example of digital only being bad for game preservation.
Digital preservation is actually the primary goal of games preservation efforts, since data is king. I think the problem with this one specifically, is that it was niche of the niche and only on one platform ever. In a way, it actually wasn't "digital enough." Sucks if anyone wants play it for the first time right now. You'd have to search for account sellers I'd guess.
That said, yeah, that early wave of digital games was before people were conscious of stuff like this. I think the main at risk groups are the ones from small developers who shut down. I doubt they deleted their games, but it's probably just sitting on a hard drive somewhere. I guess it's the digital equivalent of folks at the The National Video Game museum needing to dumpster dive for old physical games from dead companies.
Old games will probably be preserved fine, but actually getting them out to mainstream audiences to play will be different, as emulation is required. Maybe releasing your source code will be standard practice in the future after a certain number of years.
Rentals, you say.
Don't suppose you'd be interested in delisted Capcom games, like Marvel vs Capcom 2, SFIII Third Strike, or Puzzle Fighter II HD Turbo? 🙂
I bet you own them though.
I'm a little amazed the 360 even has games that never received backwards compatibility with Xbox One. I bet I'm the only person who bought Bangai-O all year, and someones paying to keep it on MS servers.
They must be losing money on it at this point, as few with a 360 would hook it up only for that game (I'm a special case, never having traded up to current gen)
Is he serious?
I'd think he's trolling, but then why disable comments if you successfully baited literally everyone?

I was happy seeing I'm not the only one on earth tearing into Streets of Rage 4.
Then I see his Hollow Knight review, and feel I've been conned. It's just not possible to genuinely hate the game that much, even if you feel its flawed.
Pretty sure he's a wanna be Darkside Phil.
