Wow! Wow..

Ys really, really sucks.

Why would anyone play this shit over something good like Beyond Oasis or Golden Axe Warrior?

Do you ever get bored of this or..?

Of shitty games? Absolutely.

Since the PS4 release.

And you think every game since then has been mediocre? That... that's a hell of a claim.

He doesn't even believe his own claim.

He's already gone on record praising multiple games that came out since PS4: Hyper Light Drifter, Hollow Knight, Thimbleweed Park, Undertale, etc. He's just made some weird personal rule that modern indie titles don't count as modern games for some reason.

The rest is mostly an act, and he actually loves all those games he shits on. I'm pretty sure he slipped up somewhere and said he liked The Witcher.

Honestly, cdtm is trying to help. You just have to know how to decode his messages.

If he hates the game, it's probably incredible and you should play it.

Indie's are, by nature, a niche market.

The gaming industry as a whole as dominated by big companies like Nintendo, Sony, MS, and those they own either by purchase of licencing deals, have gotten pretty complacent imo.

And sure, I admit your Witcher 3's and Red Dead 2's and Jedi Order's are good. They're also really familiar. The exact same formula as your Skyrim, Assassins Creed Black Flag, Red Dead 1, or Dark Souls, only "More". Like GTA V, that was nothing but a copy past of old ideas done a little bit worse, with a modern polish, and a tacked on online mode that became more popular then the story mode.

Indie's at least try innovating, or doing spins on old formula's that haven't been done to death. They are also scattershot efforts, you never know when the next good one will come, and frankly there's an awful lot of bad or middle in between.

Bayonetta.

Really wish you can turn off that ranking system the first time. Bad enough dealing with unforgiving insta-deaths, you don't have to laugh in our face about it. 🙂

So are you illiterate, too dense to recognize a legitimate argument, or just too lazy to read?

No, that's more due to the common misconception of what "indie" means. Indie does not mean niche. It just means it was created outside the usual publisher system in gaming. Freaking League of Legends is an indie game, and it's one of the biggest things in the universe. Tencent owns Riot now, but League created its legacy as an indie game. Minecraft is the best selling game of all time, and it's an indie game. Fall Guys? Counter Strike? PUBG? Rocket League? Angry Birds? Genshin Impact? All indie games, or started as indie games.

Digital distribution and crowdfunding make indie games very visible to the general populace without the need for giant marketing campaigns. It's just hard to call them "niche" as a whole now.

If we really wanted to do a deep dive, you could make the argument that companies like Valve, Blizzard, Naughty Dog, or Rockstar are simply indie developers that got really popular. Even Capcom, who is corporate as **** and started from a massive pre-existing business, self-publishes all their titles. Where do they fall? They don't have to give AF about Sony/Nintendo/Microsoft's opinions, which is why they can take Resident Evil in new directions whenever they want, like with RE7. But they also could be considered part of the "system" too. It's not always so cut and dry.

It's no different than how people misunderstand "indie" in other spaces too. Star Wars was an independent movie franchise for part of it's lifespan. Many mainstream bands are also, technically, independent, even if folks don't think about it due to their success or style. It's not always some dude with an acoustic guitar in a garage.

You're moreso talking about art/arthouse games, specifically.

Ironically, Witcher 3 is an indie game while Dark Souls is not. It's not always the indie titles that do something revolutionary, and I say that as a pretty big indie gamer. I think we too often look at companies that make a shit ton of money, and say are they no longer indie because of it. Indie wasn't supposed to refer to revenue.

The originality issue is...meh though. I agree indie games typically do novel things more often, but I also disagree that that is required for being good. As with other art forms (movies, music, books, etc), we're nearing a point where most things have already been done before. I'm more concerned with execution than novelty. I mean, hell, some folks argue gaming was perfected when Chess was invented. And there will be a Gen Z cdtm saying games were best during this time period right now, as most folks tend to romanticize the things from their youth. Folks were criticizing the very games you just praised for being rehashes of their predecessors too. There's always that guy, ya know?

Even then, you're disregarding attempts at change from larger properties. I just started Breath of the Wild, and it's a bit of a departure from typical Zelda.

Actually, as for thread, I am currently playing Breath of the Wild. I'm a bit late to the party.

I'm having fun, and stayed up way later than I expected. Then played immediately after waking up.

I do hate the breakable weapons mechanic though. In sort of a reverse of cdtm's idea about innovation, at what point should the gaming industry acknowledge that an experiment failed? With the possible exception of survival or horror games(still debatable), breakable weapons suck. I'm sorry. It's just horrible and unfun, and I've legitimately never seen it executed well. Can we put this mechanic to rest?

I've also been enjoying playing BOTW in handheld mode. I wonder is that by design or just a personal thing? Smash Bros feels better on my TV, but I might continue Breath of the Wild in handheld mode mostly.

Play Dragons Dogma yet?

I agree with the point of most things being done right now. Some games that people say are breaking new ground are just reinterpreting existing gameplay mechanics.

Digimon World: Next Order. It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a game so much but the digievolution system is pretty obtuse if you're not going to look up guides. Which I refuse to do.

Is Asura's Wrath anywhere near as fun to play as it is to watch?

Yeah, Bayonetta is reminding me why Devil May Cry inspired games were so awesome.

They don't make them like that anymore, its all Souls inspired.

Including Ghost of Tsushima...

I'm replaying Prey (newest one) on my series x. I have to say it's really cool to see MS make efforts to improve older games. The game runs natively at 60FPS, and the loading screens are less than 10 seconds.

It's impressive.

Liked the old Prey.

Sure. That was good as well..both can be good at the same time.

You literally looked at a youtube video and said "wow this game sucks."

You did it to get a rise out of Kazenji, like you always do. You've been warned to stop trolling by mods in the past.

You've changed opinions on games within minutes solely because you knew it'd piss people off, you've been doing it for years, we know your shtick, my man.
