Playing 3 now, and New Vegas after that. Just saying I don't like how they're price gouging these days. I prefered the deep discount sales back in the day. 6 dollars for an older AAA game, 2-4 bucks for an indy.

Instead of 15-30 bucks on a sale. I'm too much of a cheapskate to accept the modern pricing schemes.

Tbf I rarely buy anything higher than 20 unless it's 2+ games with dlcs. RE Village is clearly the exception but I'm a resi fan first.

Spending way too much time working out how to steal from people. Most solutions either end with waiting for people to leave a room, or how to murder everyone in a room so no one reports it.

And then I reload because I don't want my character actually getting away with murder.

Those Stealth Boys make things easy, but probably not worth wasting one for looting considering the value of the consumable is probably worth more then you can collect.

The Fallout forums really seem to hate 3 and 4. 😱

Can only imagine what RPG Codex says about them, they hated Bioshock and "cover based shooters" with a passion (Called the latter "popamole's". because of how shooting at enemies is like wacking at moles popping out of their holes with a stick..)

I thought Fallout 3 was pretty well regarded. I know a lot of people have issues with things in 4 but I thought the game was pretty fun. Actually been meaning to play it again.

I enjoyed Fallout 4....especially the better gun combat, less loading screens and most importantly, the ability to see what's inside everything. That was a godsend.

Though....I think the settlements was a missed idea. I know some people really enjoyed them and I did like how I can go back to the original area and stock up and store things...it felt kind of like how somebody would live in a world like that.

The hardcore ranger mode makes those settlement integral to the game.

Yeah I remember not really exploring settlements too much. Just didn't grab me.

I liked the overall narrative though. And as you said, better gunplay.

3 gets a lot of unnecessary hate from the Fallout community I think. Most of the criticism of 4 is warranted slightly, but anyone who thinks; 'They just turned it into a shooter.' should really try a melee stealth build, really challenging in the early game and very satisfying damage output once you invest skill points in the right places. Nothing like killing a Mirelurk Queen with a single blow or taking out an entire room full of raiders before they even get a shot off at you like you're Nighcrawler.

Though...the one thing I did enjoy was the cathartic release of cleaning up the settlements for materials...hahaha.

And they play a much bigger and important role in the Ranger mode...where you can't fast travel. Setting up settlements and then connecting them allowed you to store your gear (because weight was a massive issue in that mode) and your able to restock on ammo (which now had weight) and etc....

It was key..and you can create a bed that was essentially for rest and a water pump to keep you hydrated.

Personally, I think Fallout 4 gets a bit more flak than Fallout 3. It didn't have earth shattering quests like the nuclear bomb of Megaton city but I still quite enjoyed it.

I'm looking forward to whatever Starfield is.

What's with the Protectron? I activated the one you find at Super Duper Food Mart while scrounging for the Survivalist Guide (Kind of pointless since I shot all but one raider), and it suddenly started attacking me.

Still playing some old NES/SNES titles through my Switch membership--

And holy hell. Kirby's Adventure still holds up pretty well. It's my first time playing it, so I don't have nostalgia glasses fogging my perceptions either. I'm surprised by the amount of content it had, how great it controls, and how good the animation was. Many times, I play some older titles and go "oh, that's where they were then." before putting it down and never touching it again.

I surprised myself by playing the entire game. The end boss was great, and you even get a decent schmup experience during it.

Soundtrack wasn't the greatest though. Some good tunes occasionally, but the music was mostly just fitting-but-forgettable. I wouldn't listen to it outside the game.

Not too happy with Fallout 3 at the moment.

I fell into the "quest progression trap". Was doing the Survivalist Guide of uncovering the history in Rivet City, talked to everyone, ticked off the main objective easy enough, and could NOT find the optional one. In frustration I look to a guide.

Turns out I had to go talk to Bona. Except I already talked to Bona, and asked her everything on the list. I had no reason to talk to Bona, and had no reason to think some of her dialogue was locked before talking to someone else. I mean, why would she care if I talked to a council member first? Why couldn't she just spill her story earlier, like a normal person would?

It's one of those design quirks in RPG's I hate.

I don't want to quit because of it or anything though, been having mad fun on every other quest.

Protectrons have a personality mode, it was most likely set on law enforcement mode, it deemed you to be a law breaker when you started killing people, better to let it loose and put your gun away and hide while the fighting happens.

Thanks. 👆

Hey, can the dog die? I met Dogmeat, then locked him in my room because I couldn't take it if he was killed off by some random Super Mutant or something.

He can die but if you wait a day or two then go back to the scrap yard where you find him another one will be there.

So like Hawke or whoever at the gates or Rivet City.

If it's supposed to be the same dog unconscious, I guess that's ok. Not too sure I'd risk it if its a replacement dog.

It has the same name and uses the same model and textures so I guess you could rationalize it like that, never thought about it like that before.

That's how it works with other essential characters. The Rivet City guard would drop unconscious, then his body would disappear and he'd materialize in the general area.

IIRC, the dog actually can die and you need to get a replacement from the scrapyard, only if you have the Puppies! perk which comes with one of the DLC's.

He dies a lot I seem to remember, enemies tend to prioritize him over you for some reason.

Ooch ok then. I'll leave him behind from now on.

Maybe send him off on fetch quests.
