A few Klingons overtook Kirk. Physically they were far greater than Kirk who managed to gun a few down. I've always maintained they were fodder to only Khan. The only reason they survived is because Khan went through them like nothing but he also had the three from the enterprise at his mercy as well. They were simply in awe of Khan. 🙂
