Force Awakens is going to have a shit ton of trailers.
Disney is going to make so much money off this film.

The movie is only one piece of the pie. Star Wars Battlefront is predicted to be the top selling game this winter.

I know. Disney is on another level when it comes to marketing and profits than the other movie companies currently.

Universal had a record year this year. Next year Disney and WB will be the favorites.

Yeah, universal had a great year but I doubt their merchandising, video game tie ins, etc. will come close to Star Wars combined profits.

Hell no. Star Wars is king when it comes to that.

Pretty much nailed it on ST:ID and the future struggles of ST.

Worth the read if you're a fan of the franchise.

I will argue anyone who had a problem with Into Darkness. I heard plenty of nonTrekkers in my personal life enjoy the film. Everything about that film to me was amazing and I personally despise that Trekkers have been very vocal about their hate for this movie giving the perception it's very polarizing when it's just a very small and vocal group speaking out against it.

I really want this film to continue the franchise whether it's good or bad because more NuTrek is a good thing. If this movie bombs this nu universe will probably cap as a trilogy.

I get why Star Wars is more marketable and far more successful as the old Trek was for the most part boring and terrible hence its death pre Abrams. Abrams a Star Wars guy revitalized the series. I just hope it doesn't devolve back into the old crap it was pre Abrams and rather can have a healthy balance of the elements but most importantly of all be entertaining. I do have high hopes for Beyond and want Paramount to get the release date right.

Well I did say it's "worth the read if you're a fan of the franchise", you dislike TOS, TNG, DS9, VYG, ENT, all the TOS flicks and all the TNG flicks; that's around 99% of the franchise that you can't stand. So not surprised you had a problem with this story.

What Lin has said thus far gives hope that this will be a great ST flick. The problem is the studio interfering and his mixed director accomplishments.

I did find this franchise to be outright awful Pre Abrams. I've always been vocal about that so nothing new. Into Darkness is the best Star Trek to date and entertaining from start to finish. You're an old Trek guy and already said there's only one Khan (WOK) to you. You prefer the old stuff which is fine but I just hope this doesn't devolve to the old formula which is a proven failure and mid-budget/level franchise. I want this to be a big budget rival to Star Wars. I know it won't ever challenge it but to at least bring in 700+ million worldwide to stay afloat. I do want more screen time of Sulu and the rest of the enterprise crew so I don't disagree with it entirely just the criticisms of Into Darkness. I'm still intrigued by Elba as the new villain and what he has in store.

How is the "old formula a proven failure"? There's decades worth of "old formula" and it's highly popular. I understand that you don't enjoy it, but calling it a failure across the board when it's not failed is silly. Sure some flicks here and there were meh to shit (eg Final Frontier is awful). Star Trek: Enterprise while not awful, ultimately failed and was cancelled earlier than expected and put a stop on another TV series.

No problem with the rest, also do hope Lin nails this and blows the previous two films out of the water in quality and entertainment as I want more Star Trek and do hope a great film return on this inspires confidence for another ST TV show. It's been too long.

Idris Elba is the new villain?

Yes.

It never became a huge hit and the later films laughable budgets should clue you in to that much. I'm not talking about my opinion I am talking about its success as a whole. The last two Trek films looked great, felt great, and the acting was superb.

Finally we agree that we both hope this guy nails it. There is no way he will come close to Into Darkness for me but he's welcome to try. But I don't want a new Trek TV series based in the Nu timeline. If there is a new Trek show keep it in the prime universe. Let that Worf character get his own show I mean the actor who plays him seems to really love his character despite Worf being downright awful to me.

Again, not sure how you can say "never was a huge hit" when you have armies of fans all the way from the casual SciFi lover to whacked Trekkers and Trekkies who adore the old formula and have so for decades. We'll just have to agree to disagree here.

I prefer ST:2009 over ID, it's much better film, imo. I do doubt Lin will surpass that, but again, do hope he does. If he bombs it, will probably be years before there's another attempt.

Ha, nice jab at Worf, but Worf, like the lion, does not concern himself with the opinions of sheep. I'd prefer they kept it in the prime and shot forward a century of so, that way they can still pull from the old canon material if they need.

Star Trek has always had solid acting. It is one area where it has Star Wars beat.

Elba will playing Heimdall in the Star Trek film. The Enterprise enters an anomaly which puts in in Asgard's atmosphere. Heimdall guts the hull of the Enterprise with his sword, similar to what he did in last Thor movie.

I have no doubt he could do that.

It has a lot of social outcasts as fans. Kinda like the Friday the 13th franchise.

His first film is quite good but there is something truly special to me about Into Darkness. Yes, if he fails this will end up as a trilogy until who knows when.

Worf is pure horror and he makes me cringe just watching him act out a scene. Yes, keep it in prime and let the NuFilms be the only canon for the Nu universe. I love the idea of more Star Wars but with all the new comic books, video games, animated series, for it it's overkill. I love the new films but Vader in his own ongoing comic is too much Vader IMO. It'll kill the mystique of the character.

I want to see a NuTrek version of the Enterprise D.
