You have to think Shatner did something wrong later in life. Maybe he gambled, maybe he just made bad investments, but for f*cks sake the dude seemed to be hard up for money most of the time.

No one can songspeak like Shatner

For me it went south after the 3rd season really. Russel back in the 5th season was cool, but they killed him in a lame way.

Then Warlow turns out to look nothing like this dread locked f*cker we saw in flashbacks. I choose to believe he possessed Rob Zombie briefly.

Russell had amazing lines and an amazing screen presence in every appearance in season five. Russell was the ****ing best thing to ever hit the show.

No doubt, the part where he kills the dude on the tv show and delivers his rant on live tv is the best part.

Dude talks about eating kids and then says "and now for the weather" in that southern accent that almost seems to allow anyone to say anything horrible and it still somehow sounds elegant.

I just figure he's not making much on royalties or endorsements anymore.

He's Jewish, aren't they supposed to always hard up for money?

The animated series from the 1970s is on netflix and I've been watching it. It's bizarre and they even got all the original actors to voice the characters.

One episode has the Enterprise becoming kinda sentient and also becoming a practical jokester. Remember the ship is more or less in charge of making everything, including their uniforms. I point this out merely because then this happens:

Come on now, even the ship knows Kirk is a douche.

The only original character worth a damn was Spock. Abrams took and implented him in the superior Kelvin universe.

Kirk was the life of the films in Abrams first 2 films. Don't know what that pillock Simon Pegg was thinking suddenly making him a manic depressive.

I think maybe Kirk is in love with Spock and is just now realizing it and is upset that Spock is dating a female and not him.

Remember in Into Darkness when he looked like he was about to burst into tears when he told Spock he'd miss him and Spock didn't say it back?

I feel I am onto something. Think about it, in the first film Kirk isn't truly upset his dad died or anything like that, he's sexually confused..plowing through many a green skinned alien chicks and not knowing why he feels so unfulfilled.

Spock is the first to challenge him, this is when he is caught cheating. Kirk is stirred by this, irked by Spock. He thinks he just really dislikes Spock, but at the end of the movie when he see's Uhura is with Spock he gets a twinge of jealousy, but not for whom he would suspect: he is jealous she gets to be with Spock, but he brushes it off as just being nervous and jittery over the mission. By the end of the movie he mind melds with older Spock, and see's directly into his soul.

Then, after having become Captain, he almost loses Spock again in a volcano. This is when his true feelings become apparent to him. He loves Spock, and is tortured by this. By the end of the movie he realizes Spock isn't gay, and is distraught. Seeking to end his suffering, he decides to end his life and save the ship. Only to be ripped back from the sweet release of death by magic blood. Kirk is now forever doomed to, everyday, see the one he loves kiss Uhura and hold her and be with her.

No wonder he is so depressed.

^ If they go with a gay relationship for the series and drop all other interesting plot elements they'll probably win the Oscar for Best Picture.

They could have an angry HJ scene in the turbolift..

That would be really edgy and smart.

True. Or it could go the extra step and be really edgy and make Sulu gay for no reason at all. But then, that would be stupid.
