A bit baffled Gohan has no idea how baseball works. He's supposed to be this know-it-all turbo nerd his mother harassed him to be since childhood, donned those stupid glasses even, and he doesn't know baseball? I thought he gave up fighting for family and education's sake but the former is more true than the latter it seems.

That's the thing though, how would training with Piccolo make him that much stronger by this point? If he was training under Whis then I could buy it, but Piccolo? That's kinda reaching, not that they couldn't write it in.
Does even Toriyama know how strong Piccolo is at this point?
He clearly forgot the mystic powerup, along with forgetting what Vidal's personality was like.
Perhaps, but Frieza's kind of a different matter altogether. He never had to train his whole life before that point; he was just that strong naturally, so it wasn't that hard to buy that he could become ridiculously stronger through training for once, regardless of who he was training with. The stamina problem with his gold form was a dumb convenience though.
And remember, Gohan's the dude who was 3 times as strong as Goku at age 4 when he got angry enough. Seeing his dad dead will help him to re-obtain that level of anger/motivation.
And tbh we have no idea what kind of training Gohan has done with Piccolo. They could write/rationalize anything at this point.
It really is Christmas season after all!
