Think you’re kinds missing the point.

Who else is going to challenge Kenobi is the point. It’s either Vader or Maul. But Mauls already been done and dealt with by that prick Filonk. So it’s Vader.

We know how Kenobi dies. Maul is way more exciting than Vader. He got to kill all kinds of weak rebels in Rogue. Soft retcon as to the details. Maul is a superior bad guy to that poser Vader.

In Obi’s prime he was skill wise beaten by Maul and looked worse in the clone wars. Later both past their prime we see what happened. Vader bested an outside of Kenobi’s prime because he allowed it. Vader is vastly overrated we need to look at the context.

I'd say RotS Obi Wan is prime Obi Wan. Not TPM.

I agree it’s that same timeframe from clone wars as well. Maul faced off against him there too.

Maul from TPM would destroy Vader.

Is that not the general consensus among the Star Wars nerds (That TPM Maul would destroy Suit-Vader)? Are there people who disagree? If so, why?

Oh no they believe Vader to be superior for the most part. They believe Vader is more powerful than Maul and more skilled with a lightsaber.

I just don't see that. George Lucas wasn't ambiguous about this. Vader is supposed to be a shadow of what he could become. Broken and beaten. Sure, the average Jedi during the Jedi peak may be defeated by Vader but any adept Jedi should be able to defeat in a saber duel.

Disney Canon completely goes against that. In Rebels (set a few years before ANH) Maul admits hes no match for Vader, and gets owned by Ben Kenobi.

The creator of that series (Dave Filoni) claims Lucas never wanted Vader to be downrated in any way. He worked with Lucas for many years on The Clone Wars.

In the new Canon novels Machine Vader (approx 5 years post ROTS) believes his anger/hatred has made him more powerful in the Force than he was in ROTS. Though I dont buy that myself, they have clearly gone out of their way to big up Vader.

Dont forget about the line in TFA, where Kylo REN is afraid he may never be as strong as Darth Vader.

Issue is the movie audiences have seen and know how Kenobi dies. All they know about Mauls fate is he died all the way back in TPM.

So if they resurrect Maul on screen then they couldnt kill him and will just leave his fate hanging for movie audiences who will most likely be like WTF?!

Why? Everything supports it.

Because ROTS Anakin at his peak was too powerful. He tooled Count Dooku.

In TCW hes even been shown to be godlike one time in the Mortis episodes.

I agree. When we see the prequels it’s clear Lucas showed Jedi and Sith at their apex.

So you’re saying you do believe now that they have resurrected Maul to the general audience they have to do something with him at this point. So give me more Maul. That’s what I want.

And also again by his former master after taking over Mandalore.

Context. He has Kenobi beaten and was arrogant dropped his guard and was caught. Kenobi was well past his prime in ANH and Vader couldn’t even beat him. Both were past their prime.

That "well past his prime" Kenobi beat Maul in three blows. It's a weird argument to bring in Vader's duel with him considering how the two Sith fared.

Sounds like Palpatine vs Kenobi is finally happening!
