thanks man, it was fun.
to be honest I didnt think I could take it.
the reason I waited so long to point out how winter was knocked for aloop by absorbing magic was because I had no idea how easy it was to find contrary feats.
the reason I put up so many "alternate" plans (as digi pointed out) was simply to cover my back if my main strategy was shot to hell (which I was starting to think was)
Had a great lot of fun with this one we'll have to BZ again some time.

Haha, yeah, and now we can discuss it in the open!

It would be VERY difficult, tbh, to find contrary feats. Like I said, I've pretty much exhausted all my scans of Winter's feats, apart from the ones where he's living in the Sun and raining fireballs at Earth. He was in a team book his entire publication history, and they didn't run for all that long.

My thoughts:
Firstly, thanks to the judges, and thanks to Supermutant for stepping up. Having judged before, I know how piss-annoying it is when others question your judgements, after you've spent time wading through all the arguments. With that said, I will only say two things, and then will leave it.

Digi - I guess I should have made it more explicit (learning lesson for me for next time!) that I was also relying on channeling Sun energy, with or without beatboks' input. I tried too hard to be sneaky, and left parts of my strategy too late (because I wanted to ensure beatboks couldn't counter it).

Supermutant - the fight with the Ferryman (in my scan) was going badly for Winter, NOT because it was magic, but because the Ferryman was being incredibly amped by all the death and destruction around him. Like a fat guy gorging himself.
With that said, I hope I showcased what Winter could do to those who didn't know him, and hopefully pulled a few surprises out of the bag for those who did.

It's the forum's loss, really, as you will now not see my incredible amalgam that I had planned for the next round sneer

Once more, though, congrats to beatboks!

I have no problems explaining/defending my vote. You guys deserve that after the hard work put in it. This was an extremely close match, and I almost voted for you just for your smack talk alone.

If you would had mentioned that Winter's opponent was amped in that scan, and that what was causing him so much pain--it definitely would have helped your cause.

But I could not make an unsupported leap from Winter being in trouble from absorbing magic to meaning that, Arion's powerful spells and magical artifacts wouldn't seriously harm him and give him problems.

Especially considering that even after the Ferryman fight was moved to a hospital maternity ward, Ferryman still appeared to be winning and Winter was left on his knees and chained up. Until Ferryman left under his own power b/c he couldn't stand to be around new life.

So, in the only evidence that was presented to show Winter's magic absorbing capabilities--he was basically getting his butt kick and could only muster a voluntary bfr b/c of a change in location. Even the bfr (no bfr per rules) was not b/c of Winter's power set.

And thats all the info I had to judge on this essential issue of whether Winter could absorb Arion's magic w/out sustaining major damage/problems. So I don't see how I could fairly go the other way on this important issue.

Like I said in my vote, great match but that scan by itself did you a lot more harm than good in this particular match w/out others to counter it.

Ha, damn, I shouldn't have posted it then, lol. I thought my scans of my characters insane pain tolerance would have been good enough (especially Hercules).

And should have focussed on mainlining power directly from the Sun, to heal and to explode - and not just focussed on the magic (not that Arion was using much).

Yeah I'm in three minds between keeping the amalgam I have and a redraft I've pm'd Id ( and a third i have in mind). My current amalgam has a shit load more versatility of that there's no doubt. And I can't really think of an amalgam that covers half as much. But then I'd start the next round with every adversary completley aware of what my build can do, could be a big issue.

So... Game of Thrones was wrong all along.... Winter, as it turns out, is leaving!

🙁

C'mon though, you missed out on gold, if you had written "Winter is cumming" under your sig you'd have gotten at least a few "lols"

Easy PG, with this many judges sooner or later I'll be ruling one of your matches ahah

Unless you plan on going down like a chump, in which case, touché.

@Bentley Glad You liked Arion, he's one of my all time Fave Characters.
I love Magical characters as a Rule (Dr fate, Dr Strange, Hellstrom, etc) but I also like Fantasy and warrior type stories. Arion is one of the very few Comics characters who really combines SWORD and Sorcery. Fighting as much as a warrior as he did as a mage.

I'd never heard of him before.

😉

So, in the spirit of the "Odds" thread that apparently never took off, BB should technically have highest odds at this point. Owing to the 3-way, Leo/Ambient/LoB should have the lowest until a winner is determined. So maybe something like:

BB: 5/1
PG/Scoob/Abhi/MM: 8/1
Leo/LoB/Ambient: 10/1

Since I'm not adjusting for tourney experience, or what I think of the amalgamations, these are rough estimates.

Unfortunately he's only had a little over a dozen appearances since COIE. He appeared in Powergirl Issues because he was rewritten originally as her grandfather who magically altered her DNA to make her as she was and transported her to a "safe point" in time from his enemies. He appeared in Wonder Woman possessed by Morgane Le Fey where he fought Dianna, Etrigan and Phantom Stranger . He appeared in superman where he was possessed by Mordru in an issue featuring some new gods. and a four issue mini series "immortal Arion"

Almost nothing he's done post COIE has any consistency even with itself let alone anything that came before. Then again most of it was under the control, influence or amp of someone else.

I would have brought up a scan of Arion in the Superman issue hiding himself from the New God's present (including energy manipulators), to combat DS energy detection. Since however I consider the whole thing to be Mordru's power level and not Arion's (since it's more consistent with Mordru's showngs), so to do so would have been shooting smoke up someone's backside (and I've never been a good enough liar to pull that type of crap off)

Grats to Beatboks 👆

And a 👆 to DS for putting up a good fight!

It ended the moment you dared to challenge me!

i guess i should have seen that coming.....

@bentley

You posted a split second before I did and the quote function doesn't seem to work consistently and I was too lazy then to fix it.

Anyway, about to post now. weekend takes precedence. Actually speaking of that for me at least like...3 posts max is enough. 3 or so posts and/or a couple days span of debating.
