To describe what you are? I'd use the same term, currently I am leaning towards "undocumented immigrant".

Undocumented immigrant means a person that legally came here but does not have his papers to prove he did.

Illegal immigrant is someone that goes to a different country of origin, and stays, illegally.

Oh yeah, the immigration was illegal. Calling it illegal immigration is not an issue either. The problem is "illegal immigrant" which is dehumanising, and is not used in any other cases where illegal things are performed.
