Right, my personal editorial decision to avoid the term is political correctness gone mad, but TI's insistence that everyone uses his preferred, and loaded, term when there are perfectly fine alternatives is alright.
Regarding "criminals", we don't use that word for every breaking of the law either. If you speed you do break the law, but in general no one would call you a criminal or an illegal. The word "illegal" to describe a person is solely used for immigrants, and that is part of the reason why it is so charged. It evokes a high level of criminal energy, which in my opinion, is not warranted for most unauthorized immigrants. People like Star and TI further this, by talking about unauthorized immigrants that perpetrate severe crimes, trying to link crimes like murder and rape to the much less severe act of crossing a boarder illegally.
So, yeah, I will avoid the term, if you don't want to do that, that's fine, but I think there's good reasons to, because the words we use to describe a situation matter.
