A very common false myth that is extremely pervasive. So pervasive that is sneaks into respectable colleges, to this day.
Not only did most major Native American tribes have land ownership concepts, they also had complex rules for other tribes related to owned lands (hunting grounds, for example).
Additionally, many Native American tribes had currency systems, too (despite this being another commonly touted false myth).
Basically, Native Americans cannot be lumped into this or that. Their tribes, traditions, cultures, and cultures were widely varied.
Both communal and private land ownership concepts abounded in Native American tribes. Usufruct is probably one of the more recognizable concepts of land ownership among some Native Americans from those time periods.

LOL. People still crying about how Native Americans have been wronged. So sad. Our european ancestors were just living how everybody else lived backed then. Everybody was always trying to conquer somebody. Native Americans tried to conquer and slaughter other tribes so quit acting like they were some kind of angels or something. It's not Columbus's fault that the indians were so outmatched. Stop with all this hatred of our ancestors. They won us our freedom from the British so show a little ****ing respect to them FFS. IF the indians had had the same level of technology as the europeans I'm quite certain they would've travelled to other continents too and tried conquering them.
