Well, in my opinion, Islam needs to undergo a reformation movement kind of like what Christianity went through, because yeah, Islam, especially as practiced in the Middle East and Africa, is in desperate needs of getting with modern times.

The theories of Koenraad Elst are considered by many of his peers to be highly controversial/ inaccurate. He's been criticized for his dishonesty in the past and he's known to hate Islam. Quoting him as an accurate source is stretching it. Then I guess his beliefs confirm yours, and you'll believe what you want to believe anyway, so there's no point.

I don't really know the other sources listed by long pig, but I would be very surprised if they're not of the same ilk as Elst, anti-Islam fringe theorists.
