Officials in Germany are considering deploying the army inside the country in the wake of multiple attacks, while the governor of Bavaria says Islamic terror has already “arrived.”

During Tuesday’s press conference, Seehofer said Germany is facing “a new dimension of terror,” while Bavaria’s interior minister announced that the state’s police ranks would be increased. Hermann also suggested that Germany’s army (Bundeswehr) could be used to aid police in dealing with major terror threats. The debate over whether to deploy the Bundeswehr domestically should not wait “until the next attack happens,” he stressed, as quoted by General-Anzeiger. Lawmakers in Berlin are also discussing the possibility of establishing “troops of reservists” to aid police during internal crisis situations, German media outlet Bild reported, citing its own sources.

In July, Germany approved its new military roadmap, the White Paper, which allows for the use of the German army inside the country in cases of large-scale terror attacks.

Despite attacks, Germany will still offer safe haven to migrants

Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday that Germany will stand by its principles of offering safe haven to migrants and not bow to fears stoked by a series of attacks in one week, including two claimed by the Islamic State.

Cutting short a vacation after her nation's refugee policy came under fire, Merkel vowed to ratchet up security measures. "Fear can't be a good counsel for political action," she said in Berlin.

She acknowledged the shocking nature of the attacks, including three by refugees seeking asylum in Germany. In the two attacks claimed by the Islamic State, a Syrian refugee blew himself up Sunday in Ansbach, injuring 15 people. On July 18, an Afghan teenager wielding an ax wounded five passengers on a train in Würzburg.

"Taboos of civilization are being broken," Merkel said, referring to the violence in Germany as well as recent attacks in the United States, France, Turkey and Belgium.

This month's attacks increased pressure on Merkel's open-door policy toward refugees fleeing war-torn Syria, Iraq and other nations. Merkel said Thursday that her 2015 policy of accepting more than 1 million migrants and refugees still stands. Between 25,000 and 30,000 Syrians have sought asylum in Germany each month this year.

"I am still convinced today that 'we can do it.' It is our historic duty and this is a historic challenge in times of globalization," she said, according to Agence France-Presse. "We have already established very, very much in the last 11 months.

The welcoming policy has frustrated a majority of Germans, with more than 60% saying the number of refugees being accepted have become too high, according to a recent poll by YouGov.

Okay so I was reading the comments on this article and someone please tell me the following comment is not accurate:

"Of the 1200 complaints filed by women on the New Years groping attacks (there were certainly more than that) the great German justice system managed to convict 2 criminals, the worst punishment being 1 year probation."

I hope that isn't true, there should be zero tolerance for any migrants committing crimes of a violent or sexual nature. Zero.
