I don't know where you get the idea that it can clearly hurt him when it didn't. He wasn't phased at all by the lava and it circled his entire body as shown during the Gohan and Broly scene. Yes he was ok when the lava touched him. If it could've killed him, he would've been seriously injured during the time it did touch him. Get it?

Because he needed to shield himself. If he didn't then he wouldn't have used it. What do you think the writer was trying to show here? Had Broly been immune to it then either it wouldn't have been an option in the first place or it would have been shown to not have an effect. It did have an effect as you pointed out since Broly's appearance changed before and after it happened.

And Broly was stronger than Gohan right? Meaning if Gohan felt lava would kill Broly then he must have been certain it would have killed him(Gohan). As we know power in DB is linear. That's how it works brudda.

Depends on the JL lineup. Wally West is hilariously faster then Broly and could just sap him of all his speed.

You also mentioned the "Avengers" but again the lineup matters. If it's the one with Sentry and he isn't in "I want to die" mode then Broly is kind of screwed. Given he can come back from bodily destruction and kill beings capable of the same.

Though I will say yes Hulk gets stomped by Broly. Hulk just plain doesn't belong fighting DBZ characters. Hell there are even some characters from Dragonball he doesn't belong fighting.

He is educated, but education systems tend to be flawed and pretty sure that DB education system doesn't give a f*ck about Saiyans and their physiology/uber ki reserves 😛

So if anything, being well-educated would make him underrate Saiyans' survival abilities, despite being one.

I disagree. Gohan is fully versed is Saiyan knowledge only surpassed by Vegeta in that regard. Vegeta obviously because he grew up around them but Gohan learned all about them at the same time Goku did. And as we all know Goku is borderline retarded so there is no reason Gohan shouldn't be considered one of the highest intellects on that subject.

Adding in his uber extensive education(the guy was a scholar at like 6) would only allow him to further understand physiology up to and including the potential damaging effects of lava.

But imo it speaks volumes that Gohan, possibly the most powerful being on the planet at this point(pre-Buu Saga), would think lava could kill an even more powerful opponent. That at the very least tells us lava could have killed Gohan. Or he believed so anyway

If the lava actually hurt Broly, it'd be an extremely low showing.

Kind of how amped WWH was repeatedly hurt by Spider Woman and Hawkeye of all people...

Also I'm pretty sure in did hurt/damage/affect him even if it was minimal. As Carver pointed out Broly was undamaged going in but when he came out he had slight battle damage AND had his shield up. Clearly the writer wanted to show us lava can hurt him.

Broly most likely used a shield when he entered the lava because prolonged exposure could eventually hurt and kill him, hence why he wasn't damaged initially

We do know that lava can hurt DBZ characters, Gohan was about to get engulfed in that movie before Krillin saved him, even though Gohan was worn out that shouldn't have any bearing on how durable his skin and muscles are. Also IIRC Goku was burned by lava during his fight with Frieza but it may have also been anime filler so I'm not entirely sure

I don't recall Goku getting burned by lava.

Also it is possible Krillin just wanted to help out Gohan and it doesn't mean the lava was necessarily about to kill him. I mean who wants to get covered in lava if they can avoid it..even if it doesn't hurt? Krillin just wanted to feel useful because he knows deep down his family hates him.

Reminds me of that episode of Justice League where Supes fights Doomsday inside a volcano and then at the end WW swoops down and saves him as lava is about to engulf him.

If you have the ability to shield yourself instead of getting lava drenched all over you, why not do it?

But again it was made clear that Gohan thought lava could kill him. Even if he was wrong(he probably was) there is still these facts:

1. Lava did in fact damage Broly even if only slightly
2. Gohan felt he needed to avoid it which it why he carved a path in it with ki
3. Broly protected himself
4. Gohan needed to be saved from it

It's pretty clear what we were being shown. The writer could have done a million different things but decided to show us those specific things

Why not use a shield when Goku and Piccolo are attacking you simultaneously? Why not use a shield to block a point blank kamehameha from Goku? Why not use it to block SSJ2 Gohan's first punch to the face?

All these things he tanked without using his shield. Broly likes to tank things. It's what he does. Him using the shield is out of the ordinary.
