yea.... and europe is seeing a resurgence of right wing nationalism due in no small part to the fact that europe's immigration policies have shifted demographics drastically.. which undercuts your idea that exposure to different cultures is the solution.

65,000 people is a mid sized city in the us. what are the plans for those people when they get here?

No, like I said "in time", there may be some problems short term, of course. Though this is only really a problem for the refugees, though I'm not sure your concern for this makes much sense when you don't seem to show concern for the bigger problems they face.

Yes, and it's a very small number over all. When refugees get to the US after two vetting processes both by the international community and several US agencies they are first settled in a specific place in the US, this has been in about 140 towns and cities so far. Within a year of arriving they are required to adjust their status to become permanent legal residents , at which point they are free to move cities and generally do what residents are allowed to do.

The right-wing propaganda machine is spinning that all 65,000 refugees will be shipped in mass sans any vetting while being handed fistfuls of dollars and being made citizens the same day so they can vote for a Democrat.

This is why you see arguments like that.

Just like the "short term problem" Paris had last week.
Nothing major.

Are we back to pretending that the Paris attacks were carried out my Syrian refugees? I haven't followed up with Fox news in a couple days.

Will they be handed any dollars, even if not fistfuls?

Considering they're fleeing a war-torn country, it's save to say they'll need at least some financial assistance at first. But that's a far cry from being some 'welfare diaspora' that's going to strain the economy indefinitely.

But why would they need money..being a refugee takes grit, gumption, moxy, more grit, and money. Wait I mentioned moxy, right? Yes..always wanted to use that word, moxy. I thought I'd have to settle for going back in time and going up to a Newsie and telling him he's got moxy.

http://abc13.com/news/obama-vows-to-veto-bill-increasing-screening-for-refugees/1090359/

😂

Oh the comments on this are great, the best ones are the ones made by immigrants.

"Heh i got screened for legally immigrating to the USA. Why cant the refugees be screened. Hell im probably still screened because i believe in the constitution."

"See what I mean??? He is taking this country down the toilet. Why would you not want to screen these refugees coming into our country when they are coming directly from countries that we know raise, train, and harbor terrorists? Unbelievable. At least it might help. He forgets American citizens aren't provided 24-hour security like his entire family has now and will even after he's not a president."

"So he's all for extra background checks on American citizens who simply want to exercise their 2nd amendment right, but not on people we know nothing about. Figures."

"Obama is a idiot"

Wait they aren't doing background checks? No seriously dude April 1st is many months away man that is not cool.

He is threatning to veto any bill that requires background checks.

Confirmed, Obama is a anti-american.

"Apparently, he refuses to learn from his past mistakes. We have already let in "refugees" in the past who happened to kill our soldiers overseas with IEDs, and then move here as refugees only to continue plotting to kill.

I would happily link it if doing so wouldn't put my message in approval limbo, but just head to the ABC News website as it is one of the main stories you can read about and watch video of."

Okay so wait wait let us see this from the other side. Maybe doing a background check is super expensive and we can't afford it?

We could afford $500 million on 4 Syrian Rebels and $43 million on a gas station in Afghanistan, the US has never had trouble affording anything. We just print that money, honey.

Come on now it's not like we need $43 million bucks anyways. When you aren't in debt to anyone in the world you can throw money away on whatever, right?

5 Syrian refugees detained in Honduras en route to U.S.
NOVEMBER 18, 2015, 5:18 PM|The government of Honduras says 5 Syrians have been detained for trying to travel from Costa Rica to the U.S. with stolen passports. CBSN's Vladimir Duthiers has more.

😂

google some information about immigrants (not refugees!) in europe. some are really poor ppl fleeting from repercutions (christians, women, children), some are trying to get moved to places with better social trade, some are ISIS figurants. And they are not comming only from syria, but from north africa, egypt, iraq, pakistan, albania and any place on the way between turkey and germany.

due to idiotic UE law some of those ppl got located in countires with worse social benefits, but for sure totally safe eg. finland, but they said they don't like it in there and that they wanna go to sweden. is it really a way ppl who are looking for a SAFE place should act?

and getting a "syrian" passport is not a big deal as i read, plus they often say that, thir passports got lost or drown or whatever, but they claim to be syrian 😬

http://www.smh.com.au/world/fire-in-calais-migrant-camp-not-related-to-paris-terrorist-attacks-20151114-gkz7iy.html < just random fact, there were around 6k ppl, who generally were trying to get to UK.

[B]we wouldn't be debating this in terms of "which countries should have to take the refugees" if it was really desirable for any country to take them.
We would, because xenophobic bigots like yourself have been arguing against immigration since the dawn of nation-states.

You just brought up the Irish immigration in the 20's as an example of "mutually beneficial" immigration. Are you not aware that in the actual time when those people were moving here they were persecuted en masse with the same shitty arguments you're making today, and that a consensus on these people's arrival generally being a good thing for America didn't develop until decades later?

they're being debated as if they're a burden to bare,
All immigrants are a burden to an extent, that doesn't mean that their existence is detrimental to a country's security or economy, which is what you've been trying to assert from the start.

so it just seems silly to me for you to turn around and act as if they're a bunch of doctors and engineers that are going to come here and provide us with some great utility.

Then don't assert that they're lazy and uneducated retards who will contribute nothing to the work-force? Don't get mad at me for pointing out your bullshit, fam. Your argument against immigration in this thread has evolved from "they're criminals and terrorists", which was proven wrong, to "w-well they'll struggle to integrate into our society", which has been proven wrong, to " okay well they're unskilled and uneducated and don't have anything to contribute to our society", which has been proven wrong.

So, what shit are you going to throw at the wall in the hope that it'll stick next? "They'll bring super-AIDS with them!"? Something like that?

Or have we finally reached the point where you're willing to admit that, yes, your beef with refugees is just some bullshit from your gut that isn't based on any kind of objectivity or empirical data? You might not have fallen off the wagon yesterday my nigga but you definitely need to read some ****ing books and look at some mother****ing charts. You can't let the boundless cynicism of South Park and the anecdotal rants of your drunk uncle's inform your world-view forever, my man.

This is a lot of Sturm and Drang over 10,000 Syrians.

In my day job, I perform background checks on people who want to get jobs at nuclear facilities. If the state department checks are even remotely like the kind of shit we do at my job, no one with terrorist connections is going to get in.
