Wonder Woman

Many sequels have been "announced" but not one has been given a date. Or a director for that matter.

True, MoS 2 is kinda up in the air still, but I'd still say WW's future is more safe/secure given the success of this film, both financially and critically.

Now go watch it already. 😛

Watching it this week!

Dropped 73% from its 1st to 4th weekend.

To put that in perspective Fifty Shades of Grey dropped that much from its 1st to 2nd weekend, and BvS dropped just a little less at 69% from it's 1st to 2nd weekend.

It probably won't beat the record this weekend, but I like this part.

We’ll have a better overseas number tomorrow, but at this juncture we’re looking at at least $700 million if not $750-$800m. And the domestic goal post keeps getting moved farther back, leaving me to scramble to come up with new comparison points for a film of this size performing like this. Honestly, when you take away obvious stuff like Titanic, Avatar and The Sixth Sense, this is one of the leggier mega-bucks live-action offerings in recent years. It’ll be leggier than Jurassic World and The Avengers by tomorrow, flying over the 3x weekend-to-final multiplier mark with plenty of gas left in the tank.

Again, $400 million still feels like a reach, if only because I know from first or second-hand experience that the next batch of live-action offerings (Baby Driver, Spider-Man: Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, Atomic Blonde, etc.) are darn good, which will remove the whole “only live-action movie that doesn’t stink” advantage from the marketplace. But at this juncture, if it can hold onto screens, $385-$390m isn’t as much of a pipe dream as I once thought. Maybe it tops Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($381m by tomorrow after an over/under $3.5m eighth weekend), maybe not. But it’s going to be a lot closer than anyone could have expected.

Surprised WW has sailed past $300mill domestic, and is on $650mill worldwide. Should finish at around 750mill+.

Ill bring down my prediction to 2.1 billion.

I don't think Homecoming is even hitting $1billion. The super hype just isn't there IMO. And way too many massive blockbusters being released in a row.

Everyone at my job (over 2000 people) wants to see it. That's pretty crazy.

There will be so many people that want to see it, that there won't be enough screens/seats. There will be rioting in the streets. Bank on it.

Not sensing that at all personally. But that might just be here in the U.K.

Latest OW Prediction was only around $100mill. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me at all if it doesn't beat Wonder Woman domestic. (Will defo beat it worldwide though).

This week meaning when? It's already Sunday. 😕 Or have you already seen it but just not talking about the film itself?

It'll be refreshing if you end up stop shitting on Gadot which I've been waiting for 😛, but either way, hope you still enjoy the movie itself like mostly everyone else has.

Meant this coming week

Lol will see about Gadot. She obviously isn't "terrible" otherwise there's no way this would have a 90% on RT.

So I got around to seeing Wonder Woman finally. To make a long story short, I absolutely loved it. Of course, you might say "Well of course YOU liked it. You enjoy all of that capeshit". First of all, no I don't. BvS was one of the biggest dumpster fires I've ever seen, but Wonder Woman surprised me with how good it was, and it was special to me for a couple of reasons.
First, I think that it nails the character in a way that I've never seen before. I've watched the Lynda Carter series from the 70s, and of course have read some comics, but I've never really been able to connect to her as a character. I always thought she was kind of boring to be honest, and the lore behind her backstory felt muddled and half-baked to me, but the film version of her story makes almost perfect sense. If you've seen the Thor movie, she's kind of like him, except for the fact that her childlike naivete about life is justified. Think of every idealistic kid who sees how shitty the world is, how evil it can be, and wants to go out and fight the good fight, only to come home dejected and depressed because it's not that simple for one person to make a difference. That's Diana.
Another thing I liked is that it was a standalone story, not connected to the other DCEU films(Thank god). Other than the opening and closing scenes, this movie could have been a one and done deal because of its theme. In general, Marvel films seem to be more about the "world outside your window" ethos, the fun of mixing over the top fantasy and science fiction with a world that is close to our reality, while DC, for good or for ill, is generally about different ideas that it wants to explore. Wonder Woman is a bit of a hybrid of both. The fantasy aspect of an entire island of demi-god warrior women with the horrors of World War I turns out to be a very intriguing cocktail. Believe me, this is a war film, they don't Disneyfy it at all, which made me appreciate the themes that it was attempting to deal with.
Unlike the films of the DCEU so far, the action is kinetic and exciting. There's absolutely no cornball stuff going on here. It's also by far, by FAR, the most warm, human, and witty film in the DCEU. The characters, even the side characters, feel like real people with depth, and aren't just plot devices. Even the villains in the film are intriguing in their own ways, despite limited screen time.
Not counting The Lego Batman Movie, it's the best DC film since The Dark Knight Rises. However, the movie I'd compare it to the most is Richard Donner's Superman from 1978 in that it nails the personality of the character down flat. A character who by all rights should be easy to mock or make fun of, but is so effortlessly charming that you just can't help but get emotionally invested in it.
The stuff that happened with the Alamo Drafthouse women only screenings last month is a bit weird now, in retrospect, because this is a movie that anybody could enjoy. Then again, lulz.

That WAS me being short. You don't want to see me when I go off on a tangent!

Seen it.

Really cool movie. Can tell it was inspired by Donner's Superman and Raiders.

As for Gadot, sorry to say I've not changed my mind on her at all. Her delivery was my big negative of the film. Aside from her accent which got on my nerves a few times, some of her lines were just delivered really poorly. I'm honestly surprised critics have given her a free pass.

That said, the character was well written, and Gadot "looked" great in action. So the character has been successfully brought to the big screen IMO.

All credit to Patty Jenkins for a very well made film.

Compared to Marvel films, still not equal to Marvel's best (WS, CW, IM1, A1, GOTG), but finally a film worthy of comparison to Marvel.

Fair enough.

At least NOW you can warrant for opinion on actually seeing the flick.

^ That.

But yeah. Glad you enjoyed the film otherwise.

It was a piece of shit movie.

Never again, DC.

It was pretty decent up until the 2nd half of the movie. 3rd act was bad though.

Someone has got to continue Quans anti-DC crusade.
