So does being a Faceless woman imbue you with no real skill? The Waif has been one for her entire adult life (she's almost 40 according to the books and joined around 6). She lost in a fight with a scarcely trained little girl. All the build up between her and Arya, and their fight happens offscreen. Weak resolution.Jaqen got snuck up on by Arya, and she could have killed him then and there. Not impressed with him either. I guess stealth kills is all their lot is really good for.
Arya abandoning them altogether was also pointless. Like all the build up to this storyline the entire show and there is nothing to show for it. Now Arya is just going to go back home (and likely be reunited with Jon and Sansa once they take Winterfell). It feels like she was just pissing around with no real plan, plot, or point the entire show and book now.
Also, f*ck Tommen. F*ck him for outlawing Trial by Combat dashing my hopes for Cleganbowl against a wall. Hounds gonna join the Brotherhood now and likely go fight for the Starks against the White Walkers when they come. On one hand, he'll probably be reunited with Arya who will vouch for him and become a loyal knight for House Stark with Brienne. On the other, we could have had Cleganebowl. Both are good but I was pretty hyped for the latter.
Also, the Blackfish fighting to his death offscreen felt pointless too. I always thought he would come back after surviving the Red Wedding and rock the foundations. Now his entire story and the siege at Riverrun are pointless too, because the Freys and Lannisters won again and we're right back to square one.
This entire episode just felt like pointless resolutions to pointless storylines that could have been cut out altogether.
"I love Cersei. You can laugh at that if you want. You can sneer. It doesn't matter. She needs me. And to get back to her, I have to take Riverrun...I'll send for your baby boy, and I'll launch him into Riverrun with a catapult. Because you don't matter to me, Lord Edmure. Your son doesn't matter to me. The people in the castle don't matter to me. Only Cersei. And if I have to slaughter every Tully who ever lived to get back to her, that's what I'll do."- Show Jaime.
"Put this in the fire."-Book Jaime on Cersei's please for help.
Adaptation at it's finest.
Arya's [No One] story-arc took a disappointing turn this season, IMO. We don't get to see the final confrontation between Arya and Waif and Arya's decision to leave Faceless Men seems rushed.
I expected Arya to retain her original identity and staying true to her political objectives in the long-term in spite of indoctrination of Faceless Men but episode 8 of season 6 seems to put a lid on this story-arc a bit sooner then I expected. Perhaps there is more to this story-arc then what meets the eye at present; I hope so.
Someone did some kind of digital sorcery and figured out that the letter Sansa was sending is definitely for Littlefinger, so expect the Knights of the Vale to show up just in time to save Jon Snow's bacon in the Battle of the Bastards.
I'll admit, I'm super worried about the Battle of the Bastards, not because I think Jon will lose, but because some side characters like Davos, Tormund, and the giant might die. Actually the giant will almost certainly die in a heroic sacrifice. That will be sad.
