Just how powerful is pre novel Vitiate?
Also I am still under the impression it wont be easy for this variant of Dooku to defeat Malak, in but a few seconds.
Also I think his SF amp would prove hard for Dooku's age. Do you think he can keep up that amount of near unlimited energy, stamina?
Malak was built pretty hard for battle, Im sure he would take the edge in phyisical showings. Seeing as how he managed to defeat a mandalorain (Dont recall his name) in single combat, something not even the best of the republic can bring to bare in a fist fight.
However his training under Yoda is promptly the most useful piece of info.
There is training, power, skill, physical showings and then employment.

Presumably ~< novel Vitiate, given that this was a decade or two before. It's debatable if Valkorion is a sith, but Vitiate is, and so he's canonically weaker than Palpatine.

I'm really not seeing what Malak has done though. I guess a lack of feats indicates uncertainty more than weakness, but then again, if we fix Sidious > novel Vitiate, it's pretty tough to put Malak anywhere near Dooku's level. He gets amped by the star forge and loses to an injured Revan, and then Revan gets five years of training and an apparent power boost and still isn't on Vitiate's level.
Likewise, Dooku's "greatest of the Order's prime" accolade is more exclusive and a stronger signal than any of Malak's.

He was drained by Anakin + Obi Wan and later by Anakin, but otherwise his age doesn't usually get cited as a mark against him. He was able to replenish his reserves in a few seconds according to the novelization.
I honestly don't think the duel will last that long, at least not against non-amped Malak.

Sure, but physical strength really isn't that important in fights between Force users. Otherwise General Grievous would have crushed Dooku and Obi Wan.

I just think his accolades send stronger signals, and his feats are obviously superior.
I put Dooku slightly above Malgus's level in raw power, and above anyone in that era as a duelist.
