I liked Last Jedi a lot when I first saw it, and I've liked it more on subsequent viewings.
I get why a lot of people don't like it, but their complaints don't resonate with me. I think Luke was the most interesting and complex he's ever been. I was very happy with them offing Snoke and refocusing on Kylo Ren, who was always going to be the story's main focus anyways. I also really like their explanation of Rey's origin (though since the source is Kylo Ren, it's very possible he's lying to her about it).
It is also the most thematically focused Star Wars movie that's ever been made.
Aside from Rose, who becomes something of a caricature, I think it's an excellent movie and hope eventually people can appreciate it a bit more.

JK, your opinion is respected.
To me the LJ was a good movie for a 'non-Star Wars fan'....Now if you are a Star Wars fan the movie sucked!!

I think he is alive too. Unless TLJ is really as crappy as i think it to be.
I think there's something to also be said about the poor planning of the sequel trilogy. I think people's negative reaction has as much to do about that then the movie itself.
Having each film in the trilogy directed and written by different people like they initially planned was a big mistake. It creates a sort of disjointed feeling when going from movie to movie, as JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson obviously are stylistically very different and have completely different desires in how they want to approach Star Wars. So the move from one to the other within the same trilogy made for a rather jarring experience. I really don't know why Disney did it this way. They should have had one director do the entire trilogy instead of splitting it up, I think that would have alleviated a lot of the issues people had with TLJ.

I absolutely despise TLJ...but you know what? That's fine. I don't need to like Disney Star Wars. I've still got the Original Trilogy and it kicks ass. For me the films ended in 1983. RoTJ is the end. This new stuff is just fan fictions written by feminists. No thanks. Hopefully Kathleen Kennedy gets the axe soon but the damage is done. I'm done with Disney Star wars.

I explained how Luke’s portrayal made no sense, I don’t even understand his rank of grandmaster as he’s so weak. Snoke deserved more development, even the emperor was expanded on though originally he appeared in one film. What origin....
Are you joking? It was crap

Then you’re not even a Star Wars fan are you? You’re just some troll with nothing better to do then giggle like a school girl while fingering his butthole bloody.....good show

I don't agree that he's weak. He projected himself across the Galaxy in a feat that is nearly unmatched as far as force powers go.
As far as being beaten by Kylo, I assume you're talking about the flashback stuff. He was emotionally devastated and it's likely that was the reason why that all happened. It was his first legitimate failure in his life since the OT, and because he'd always been lucky before in the OT when it came to his plights, he was incapable of dealing with that failure and let it get to him. That's my takeaway anyways.
As far as Rey goes, she didn't really beat him. There's no reason to think that he was really trying to engage her in a genuine fight. Like, I didn't see that scene and think "Oh Rey is more powerful than Luke now". It's not that simple.
Luke is still very very powerful in TLJ, just not God level. Remember Anakin was supremely powerful but lost in a duel to Obi Wan at the end of Revenge of the Sith. Why? Not because Obi Wan was more powerful than him, but because of a character flaw in Anakin. Character flaws can hinder an otherwise extremely powerful character and destroy them. Same is true for Luke.

Can't see that, they seem to be offing the legacy characters for good so the new blood can shine on. Leia's getting the axe in ep9 and it's not just because Fisher pasted away, it was already written on the wall imo. In with the new; out with the old is the theme of these new films.

I know, but with Fisher dead they won't really have anyone to be in Episode 9. And with fan backlash they may decide to have Luke come back and kinda take her place.
