As much as her character was shit, it's hard not to feel bad for the girl that played Rose, who was hounded until she just shut down her social media this week. Jake Lloyd, Hayden, and now her are being blamed for shit that really wasn't their fault.

Ya that's beyond stupid.
Rian Johnson went a really unorthodox route with what a Star Wars movie is. It created a huge rift in the fan base, and I personally think it went from subverting expectations into tarnishing the previously-established mythos territory. That being said, I thought some scenes and moments were among the best in the franchise and Mark Hamill gave the performance of his career. Anytime he was on screen, I was hooked.
This whole toxic fanbase thing is just childish though:
- "We can't wait for the Star Wars prequels!" - The cry of the SW fanboy. "George Lucas ruined my childhood, and Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christiansen need to die!" - The response after the release of the prequels.
- "Superman Returns is too traditional and boring! Let's get more action; we want to see the Man of Steel unleash his powers!" - The cry of the DC fanboy. "Man of Steel?! Pshh! Man of MURDER is more like it! Superman can't hurt people, he's Superman!" - Man of Steel backlash.
- "NuTrek is stupid! How dare JJ Abrams give an update to a franchise that is all about changes within society! Into Darkness is worse than the movie where Shatner goes after God!" - The cry of the Trekkie.
I grew up waiting with baited breath for every new episode of the X-Men animated series on Fox Kids' Saturday morning cartoon lineup. Cyclops was my favorite character. I didn't poop my pants and threaten to kill everyone at 20th Century Fox when Cyclops got an off-screen death in X-Men: The Last Stand.
Surely people have better things to do?

People that actually send death threats or even WISH death threats are such a tiny portion of the fan community you're really blowing it up. Sure, SW fans have always been intense, but I hated the prequels and I don't go threatening George or any of the actors. Most people just gripe about stuff they don't like. That being said I am part of the community that is boycotting the new SW stuff because I'm speaking with my wallet.

Ya, good point. Just surprises me that anyone would go through with sending a death threat over a movie, but then again that one guy shot Ronald Reagan to try to impress Jodie Foster.
On your last point: speaking with the wallet is the best move if one doesn't enjoy the direction of a franchise for sure.

Not sure I agree with your examples, but yeah, Johnson went way too far.

Funny thing, I was never a Star Trek fan (I know, blasphemy) but I actually enjoyed Into Darkness, as well as the 2009 movie. That said I wasn't bothered to see Beyond....anyone recommend it?
Beyond is considered by a lot of Trek fans to be better than Into Darkness, because Into Darkness borrows heavily from Wrath of Khan and uses manufactured drama rather than actual drama.
You'll see a lot of people like Into Darkness more because it's more of a "blockbuster" type movie.
Originally posted by -Pr-I mostly just liked Into Darkness because I thought it was a good showing of Kirk and Spock's relationship and I liked the acting overall. Also, Benedict Cumberbatch was awesome as Khan (in my opinion). Obviously however there were some REALLY dumb things in the movie like Khan's magical blood bringing Kirk back etc....Still I thought it was enjoyable. I'd probably give it like a 7/10. I'm sure I'll get around to watching Beyond one of these days.
