Without getting to involved or detailed older characters from the older star wars movies were all hyped up ,but really had no bearing on this movie at all.
I'm probably one of the least fanboyish people you could ever meet, but something funny happened to me yesterday when I told some people how much I dislike The Last Jedi. When I told them, I was immediately dismissed and lumped right in with the people who were excessively hating on Girlbusters and reactionaries who hate Marvel Comics because they introduced a couple of new characters.

Yeah, I actually think Rey being a random is hilarious.
What I hate is that this movie completely destroys the Skywalker legacy. As of this movie, we now know that Luke was a complete failure as a Jedi, Leia is a complete failure as a politician since a fledgling terrorist group like The First Order can completely walk all over the New Republic, and the family not only has one, but TWO mass murderers in it.

Yeah, but you see, I LIKE those comics. I like Jane Foster Thor, Riri Williams Ironheart, etc. I think that people who hate those comics for "forcing diversity" are stupid and delusional, but I got lumped in with them anyway because I'm not drinking the kool aid that says I have to like every new Star Wars movie that comes out. I hated Force Awakens, I liked Rogue One, I hated this movie, and I will probably hate Episode IX. This sequel trilogy is completely empty to me. I'd rather just watch the OT or Guardians of the Galaxy again.
