Finally saw it. Although the special effects were great, that's all Aquabro had going for it. There were still pacing issues, the jokes were just plain bad (MCU level), and if it weren't for the supporting actors (Kidman and Dafoe), I'd give the movie 2/10 stars.
I really didn't invest in any of the characters, so I'm sort of disappointed in Wan, because every movie I've seen of his, I'm invested 100%.
I'll watch it again to see if I like it better a 2nd time around, but I just couldn't get into it.

Have you seen "The Nun"? He helped to write and produce it and it was pretty weak... with bad CGI in final scenes to boot.

Nun was just OK. James didnt write the screenplay though. He was primarily a producer. If he were to actually direct, it would probably be good. Never disappointed with his horror films.
