Mother Teresa declared a Saint

Same here.
I am incredibly amused by the venom spewing from posters who are usually level headed, and even the forum mod. The run of the mill venomous posters are pretty good too.

Alleviating some of the misery but still supporting the causes for it 👆

I mean when you put it like that she just flat out sounds like a horrible person through and through. Two kinds of evil: those who do evil things and those who see evil things being done and do nothing about it.

I guess this "saint" was the second kind of evil. Or wait, probably both kinds of evil actually. Well damn, that is something I guess deserving of some kind of reward.

^^^That was nice. ✅

That's racist.

Riv grew up thinking that Teresa was a good person.

People disagreeing with that threaten his worldview.

So it's safer to label those dissenting opinions as "disrespectul or hateful".

Otherwise he might have to sit down and

Spoiler:
do some thinking.

👆

^^^I would click the spoiler, but like you, i'm going to fabricate a story about what you wrote, not knowing WTF i'm talking about.

That was easy!
I'm still being incredibly amused, thank you.

😆

It must be a comfortable rock that you live under.

^^^and since i have this guy on ignore, i'll just figure he's agreeing with me. 😄

But enough about all of, we're no saints. Back to the actual one, and actual topic.

This is pretty cool. There's someone called the "Promoter of the Faith", whose duty it is to question the material presented in favor of canonization.

More popularly known as The Devil's Advocate.

I just hope you aren't a Gandhi fan too Riv, what a racist little d-bag that guy was.

^^^he had bad qualities, too, though. ✅

I mean his whole thing was "I realize Indian people and black people have similar colored skin, but PLEASE don't confuse us with black people".

He also contributed greatly to the freeing of India from British Colonial rule; people are complex things, bad people can do good things just as good people can do bad things. Life is complex and judging it by a pure good/evil binary does very little good.

I think you're pissing in the wind with that logical train of thought, man.
As usual, well put though.

To which nobody said he never helped anyone. So I'm not sure why this needed to be said, but it was nice information I suppose. The entire point was the shit about Gandhi that most people know is the good shit, not the bad, but okay.

Life is complex, but certain behaviors simply just make a person shitty. For example: a child molester is a piece of shit. There is no "it's complicated" for that. Not to say Gandhi was a child molester.

The problem is that it's not a train of thought anyone spoke against. I called Gandhi a d-bag and racist, not evil incarnate. Though I suppose pointing that out is also like pissing in the wind.

This is you saying that you hoped Riv didn't also like Gandhi or respect the good that he did and as such, you are saying that Gandhi isn't worthy of any praise – which in my eyes serves the same function as saying he wasn't a good person to any degree and should be vilified.

You can note someone's accomplishments without raising them up on a podium. Being too liberal with the praise his actions provided for Indian independence tends to outshout his flaws as a racist and pervert.

It really sucks when every time you mention one side of something, you MUST mention the other side immediately after, just so that people who really feel their dissent is important don't feel the need to point your "apparent" bias out for you.

That's pretty much what this entire thread has been from page one, no?
