You vs. The Zombie Scourge... Choose Your Weapon!!!

Started by Galan00716 pages

Whatever season it was when the zombie outbreak happened in the comics. So spring/summer.

I would probably go with the riot gear then.

It would be terrible in Atlanta summers, but I feel like it's the best thing to have at first. Think about it- you are put right in the middle of a large city with tens of thousands of zombies around you. You will need to have the bite defenses of the gear and shield to survive that IMO.

The riot gear was my first choice and I still like it after the most recent bump, yes.

But we need to consider all of its drawbacks, too.

We wouldn't be nearly as swift as Glenn and Rick, for starters.

riot gear has got to be the worst choice...i dont think you all realize how hot those things especially in the summer

Damn...Ricks colt is what id pick but the 30 bullets per day cap...hmm...

I may pick the sword.

It ****ed walkers up something fierce.

1. Sword
2. Gun
3. Crossbow

Colt.

As soon as it starts, I commit suicide 👆

But in all seriousness, Lucille. Swords require more finesse than people realise - there's a reason peasants in the middle ages used maces.

I can shoot fairly well, but not well enough to choose the ranged weapons.

The riot gear is good, but its heavy. And hot to wear. Sooner or later, I will get run down by zombies, and torn apart.

I'd still need a fair amount of force to slice necks/take off limbs, and that's assuming I swing at the joints correctly. Otherwise, hacking through bone is time consuming and energy consuming.

A bat is way easier. Plus, I can use it to bash through windows etc.

I see your logic, because you are basically be dropped in a situation like this at first:

Zombies literally everywhere, so the bite protection of the armor + defense of the shield would be a huge asset.

But long-term, the gear would be a big problem, imo.

Rick's Colt would also draw herds of zombies to you every time you fired it.

Tbf, TWD zombies tend to become a bit 'soft'.

Many characters have decapitated them mid-skull with pretty casual swings from random sharp objects, for example.

The stipulation about not having any other weapons ever makes this a doozy.

I would argue that stipulation alone probably means you aren't going to survive because how many times has the ability to used improvised weapons save someone.

Plus this guarantees you would never have a good long range or Melee option. So you'll be limited in how to can engage.

That being said I think I would take the crossbow bolts. The logic being never running out of ammo is helpful. The crossbow has range and is silent.

Plus the more often you find yourself in Melee situations the more likely you are to get bit. So I would prefer to keep a distance as much as possible.

Can someone refresh my memory as to how the governor managed to get ripped apart? I remember a scene from a different z-fiction that hada guy in riot gear was mobbed by after getting dog piled they couldnt get thru his gear so they just piled on him and he waited em out till they got disinterested and left

The Guvnah scene doesn't really count because he got his head blown off then basically fell into a pile of zombies:

Yeah, he couldn't resist.

It's still a damn good feat for zombies to rip his armored corpse apart in such short time, though.

I like to rationalize it with what was said in the original Night of the Living Dead film, when Ben and Cooper very briefly discussed the undead being able to push over the vehicles (off-screen) --- it was a team effort, basically.

Guess that is what Kirkman was thinking. Or it's just another random super-strength feat from zombies, intended for the shock value/providing us with some nice gore scene typical for the genre.

Question regarding the OP. Can we team up?

Imagine how surprised/pissed other survivors would be if they found out we're so autistic, we can't even change our gear haw-som

I think a lot of people underestimate how strong TWD zombies can be.

Solo survival is what I had in mind, because that forces you to really think about which weapon would be best in this scenario.

😂

Them: "Hey you, in the riot gear... Take this stabby stab so you can kill zombies better!"
You: "Sorry, but OP states I can't use any other weapons. ¯\_[ツ]_/¯"

Actually there could be a scientific reason why Zombies appear super human in strength.

The idea is around how we actually limit how much of our strength we use to protect ourselves from injury.

So zombies not carrying if they tear ligaments actually use more of their muscle power then the typical human is capable of. I don't know where the research is now but it was a possible explanation.

Imagine your odor after a few month of surviving.

I wanted to mention this too but you have the decay part, so after a few weeks that bonus/advantage should actually move into the opposite direction.

True but decay very rarely ever seems to effect Zombies in the ways you would think it would lol.

I do agree though.
