Pretty sure Captain Marvel did. And that did the opposite of flopping.

So it clearly makes no difference to box office.

Captain Marvel is a special case. First off it didn't suffer from the other issues Birds Of Prey did. It received a heavy push from Marvel, much more so than we saw from DC with this movie. The movie also wasn't rated R. And let us not forget there were probably people who just wanted to complete the marvel movie set. I was one of those people. I wanted to be able to say I had the complete story, I had seen all the marvel movies. And I'm sure some wondered if seeing the movie would make Avengers Endgame make more sense. After all if you didn't see Captain Marvel you might be confused at who the hell this random woman is who shows up to save Iron Man completely out of nowhere.

So you gotta take in all these factors. Captain Marvel had the entire Marvel movie universal juggernaut behind her. All that past success was *her's* to capitalize on. It's not like Wonder Woman had that advantage. In fact it had the exact opposite: a string of shitty films.

Yes, but still I don't like it. The later half of the movie sucks.

Captain Marvel didn't really touch feminist ideas as well. It just used flashbacks but most of it doesn't have anything to do with her being a woman or not. Jude Law's attitude towards her doesn't have anything to do with gender as well.

Little Women is a much better example of how good feminism should be told. And it was written so many years ago.

Captain Marvel didn't cram it in there as much, but it was there. You mentioned the flashbacks, those were essentially all "men telling her she can't do things men can do" to some varying degree. And you had the cringe fight scene with the No Doubt song.

However, there was still enough good in the film to render it passable. To make me want to see more and see a sequel.

Suicide Squad didn't make me wanna see more and neither did this movie.

But does it have to do with her being a female? Or simply because she didn't do well? Jude Law doesn't treat her any different due to her gender, but her identity.

Of course it's not a problem, CM's problem to me is the later half, it simply switched the good and bad side, the heroine smashes everything. Jude Law's team could have more depth as well.

Wonder Woman was a better movie because despite Gadot's dull acting and bad fight scene. It wasn't just good/evil, it showed human's dark nature, but at the same time didn't overstretch it and telling us it wasn't all and that's why humanity is worth saving. This is a stronger and more realistic character growth.

This has been the problem of Birds of Prey as well. Feminism is NOT about "avert male gaze by making everyone ugly" and hate men so much by openly speak about it and making their characters like shit. Strong female can be beautiful, strong, and not making all men the opposite side.

Pretty good review

The problem:

R rating.

The entire production was never intended to do the actual BoP well or stick to the source material, instead they just wanted to do a Harley Quinn movie. THIS had angered the comic fans because it's not close to the source material. The cast and costume has been criticized as well. Especially Black Canary and Cain. Can you even recognize them from the comic self?

The propaganda, it wasn't that serious in the movie but still there. And some interviews from the crew had made it worse.

I hope they could learn their lesson after the flop of Ghostbusters remake, Charlie's Angels and this one. Make a good movie, not to put too much on the political string, or even insult your major audience.

Also I don't think BoP is niche. It had its own TV series in the 2000s. Many ppl knew Black Canary and Barbara Gordon, they also have Batman/Gotham to make them even more well known. How many non comic fans knew about Iron man and Thor(the MARVEL character) before MCU?

It could have been a much more successful movie if it was handled well. But NO, they didn't even try to do them right.

DC has been keep doing it, wasting most of their good character resources.

I was just ticked off about the casting of old & homely Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya (I was picturing someone like Dania Ramirez or Genesis Rodriguez) and Jussie Smolett-Bell as Black Canary; can't I just have my kick-ass blonde bombshell leathergirl???

Yeah, he's a soldier. He reminds me of Rhodes from Marvel.

And speaking of Rhodes, neither Howard nor Cheadle fits the role, imho.

I always thought Gary Dourdan in his prime was the ideal James Rhodes. But what's done is done.

Quite a few good actresses had expressed interest, including Blake Lively, who was fans' perfect choice of Black Canary.

But they only auditioned black actresses.

This film was so stupid and pointless.

I can imagine teenage girls having fun with it but for me Suicide Squad was probably better.

Have to give props to Margot Robbie though. She went all out for this.

I still think the easiest thing to do would have been to swap Winstead and the girl who played Huntress. That way, Winstead would be Canary and you could do the whole "oh, Canary wears a wig when crime-fighting" thing.

As the actor she was brilliant, but as this movie's producer, many of her decisions were part of the reason it flopped.

Black Canary is my favorite DC heroine, she already had many live action portrayals and they are mostly faithful. Her image also didn't change much in 70+ years so WHY the heck did they ruin her cast and character. If they didn't at least I would buy the ticket.

Box Office Mojo mistakenly added a 60M burst to its international box office.

Seeing Winstead in still photos for this - I thought it was good casting and I like the lack of a cheesy costume, but she just looks like a grown up Eleven from Stranger Things.

How do you know it's a mistake? It most likely made that much during the week.

It bumped out 60M in 1 day, in some countries that made more sales than Endgame and it was weekdays.

I really appreciate that KMC allows us to criticize this film's problems, including the obviously bad cast choices.
