AJ and his friends weren't happy

Just got back from this and...

... I loved it! It's pure trashy B-movie fun. 💃

Nothing more really needs to be said than that, but it was actually more fun than I expected. Better than Del Toro's movies in my opinion, because it didn't need to pull punches, there was no holding back. And there was certainly no dull moments. It's packed to the brim. Cult classic is the best way to describe it. It'll be a shame if it completely bombs, though. I would love to see more installments. There was one crucial special effect during a dramatic moment at the end that was goofy and kind of ruined the moment, but it's still part of the charm, I guess.

Oh yeah, and fu#k critics. What did they think it was going to be, Citizen Kane? It's like being mad at an apple for not being a 3-course meal or something.

8-9/10

Go see this!

Apparently there was trouble on the production with the film

I just noticed how much longer Hellboy's arm of doom is compared to his other arm. Was the Ron Perlman version the same way? It's kind of distracting.

Yeah ffs. This is just further proof that people are truly reaching (no pun intended) to shit on this movie just because it's not del Toro.

Everyone suddenly has rose colored glasses for the past. Hellboy 2 is crap. There I said it.

This arm thing... it's Hellboy's whole thing, lol. Don't take THAT away from him.

I think I finally realized what was wrong with del Toro's treatment of Hellboy. It was a little TOO classy. It's a trashy concept so this more trashy treatment fits it much better. I loved it.

I mean, that's actually a compliment to Guillermo del Toro. His style is very classy, clean, and meticulous. But Neil Marshall's violent and blunt style here nails the trashy comic concept.

I loved all the practical effects...

I mean, it's like a practical effects wet dream... droolio

Hellboy's creator Mike Mignola is also ignoring all the negative reviews

As I predicted, this movie is garbage.

Yeah another poster on another mb saw it too & greatly enjoyed the film.

I value his opinion & I'm honestly more anxious to see HB than EndGame.

Did you see it yet, brosau? What did you think?

This film was god awful. The writing felt like a bad 90's B-moive. The CGI at times was so low rent it was ridiculous. They really f**ked this up on practically every front. The only decent thing was Hellboy looked good and I do think the actor with better writing/directing can do a good job with the role.

Time for another reboot or just bring back Del Taco to direct this franchise.

Finally saw it.

Thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the film!

Classy, trashy & gory!!!

Harbour/Marshall does HB justice as much as Perlman/Del Toro did.
No where once did I feel the need to compare or criticise one to the other.

My one & only gripe is that they tried a little too hard cramming too many references to the comics that all you got was a hint & slight disappoinment that they didn't follow the stories through.

Looking forward to buying the blu-ray & all the bonus features.

Haha, the B-movie charm was what was so great about it! The opening sequence reminded me of a Sin City, the Baba Yaga sequence was reminiscent of Evil Dead 2 or something. It was a great modern homage to oldschool horror like Lifeforce, just with updated and superior technology in support of the visuals. I can see where some people are coming from with the lack of character development, but to me it was just enough to support the fun set pieces and horror gags. I loved it. Maybe I already felt somewhat connected to Hellboy because of the previous films? Hm..

And it should count for something that the comic creator was on set everyday making sure his vision was coming across. It's odd that no one is focusing on that aspect.

Hm.. I really don't think this point can be belabored. I agree that ideally we would have gotten to see del Toro's Trilogy finished (and then this R-rated reboot). But that's on del Toro. The films were barely successful. He was probably lucky they even considered funding another film. But no doubt he demanded too high of a budget. So that's why we didn't get to see his third film. It would have been very easy to drop his budget back down to maybe the numbers of his first film and make a solid finale. And in fact I would argue that it would make for a better movie (I really don't think Hellboy 2 is all that good and partly because of the larger budget). And people seem to be unfairly holding this unfortunate turn of events against Hellboy (2019). And of course they considered bringing in a different filmmaker to finish del Toro's Trilogy, but that's not fair to the new filmmaker. They wouldn't want to try to step into del Toro's shoes. So the point is del Toro blew it for the fans. And I honestly lost some respect for him on that front. He shouldn't need an astronomical budget to finish his Trilogy. Great stuff can be done with budgets even lower than his first Hellboy film.

Cool, glad to hear you liked it, too.

Yeah, they crammed a lot into the film. But I actually enjoyed that it was so dense. I think that'll be good for repeat viewings.

Actually I learned that Hellboy 1 was loosely based on a comic and Hellboy 2 was completely imagined by del Toro. Hm, that probably at least partially explains why I didn't like Hellboy 2 very much. I thought that story sucked.

Same!

Milla Jovovich's Response to the Hellboy Haters

"All I'm gonna say before going to bed is this: All my raddest films have been slammed by critics. It's f*cking hilarious. Dazed and Confused? Seriously? Classic movie. The Fifth Element! You would have thought that was the worst movie ever made if you read the reviews in like '98. Zoolander? Slammed. Joan of Arc? Disaster. Resident Evil? Let's not even go there. Anyway, every one of those films is now a cult classic. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. And this will be too."

But not all of those films have bad reviews, right? Did Dazed and Confused and Fifth Element have bad reviews initially? Because where they stand now they are pretty highly regarded.

To both of you, glad you two got your money’s worth out of it, but I felt cheated. I like the two previous films and wanted a third to finish it off, but was also excited for this reboot. Shit failed hard though imo.

I thought it was bloody awesome.

Instead of being released juz after Capt Marvel & Shazam & before Endgame...HB would've done better with an October release to coincide with Halloween.

Very true.
