I think the issues being cited are necessarily left-wing vs right-wing, it seems moreso individualism vs collectivism. Individualism is more associated with liberalism, libertarianism, and some conservatism, whereas ideologies such as fascism, communism, and neo-progressivism are more collectivist in nature, which means there are strains of individualist ideologies and collectivist ideologies on both sides. Unfortunately neoprogressivism is too prominent within the left, however the collectivist approach of favoring the group's goals and rights over the protection of individual rights is in direct opposition to liberalism, doesn't completely define the left, and is something that can also be right wing.

This was a kind of random ramble but I think it's important to draw the distinction between neo-progressives and actual liberals, and to point out that the problem isn't a problem with being left-wing as much as it is being a collectivist.

What about Cultural Marxism? How does that fit in to the equation?

I kind of think you can boil it down in even simpler terms: Rural vs urban.

The "big debate" usually seems to revolve around people trying to argue a "one size fits all" solution to two very different ways of life (Guns in a densely populated area vs guns in a sparsely populated wilderness, for example.)
