There are indications that there is a new continental divide. Criminal charges have been filed, and this time they may bring an end to the European Union. The accused: Poland and Hungary. But what is really going on?

Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, is a populist. He has mobilized his troops to openly attack Brussels. He fights against liberalism. And as if that were not enough, the Poles are beginning to follow suit.

Bingo! The EU has made them into the bad guys. It’s catchy and it allows them to try to drum up public sympathy. Those “eastern countries with nationalist and authoritarian quasi-dictators” sounds pretty scary, doesn’t it?

Indeed, the current leaders of Central Europe are virtually the only genuinely pro-European leaders left today, and that’s why they will not give in. This is especially true since, as good Populares, their power lies in the telluric strength of the peoples’ will, which can be seen whenever the powerful oligarchical elites of the West, the new Optimates, panic when they realize that they are losing control.

The signs are clear to see: Brexit, Trump, Putin, growing opposition to migrants, rising Euroscepticism, the near-victory of the Austrian Freedom Party, and the rise of political radicalism – the latter of which will crash over them like a tidal wave if nothing is done. Europeans under thirty already massively support their local populist parties . . . The Optimates of Brussels are seeing their projects being undermined by an increasingly intense reaction as their power diminishes.

The graphic stitches together two pictures, both depicting immaculate columns of young men dressed in black outfits—marching in a parade and holding identical flags and banners. At first glance, you might believe that these photos are of the same political event. But you'd be wrong. One is of a Nazi Party rally in pre-war Germany, the other of the Polish National-Radical Camp (ONR), a far-right extremist group that recently marched through the streets of Warsaw to mark the 83rd anniversary of its establishment.

However, the point of this social media move isn't hard to spot—it makes clear that the populism of Europe's past threatens to become prophecy, not least in Poland, where right-wing elites are shoring up power through silent approval of these sorts of radical groups.

I think you would benefit greatly by familiarizing yourself with the article that explains the issue. Your understanding of it seems pretty weak tbh. Not that I am surprised by that, though.

Poland’s prime minister has come under heavy fire for appearing to defend her right-wing government’s anti-migrant policy during a memorial service at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi German death camp.
Beata Szydlo said that “in our troubled times, Auschwitz is a great lesson that everything must be done to defend the safety and the lives of citizens” at ceremonies marking the 77th anniversary of the Nazis’ first transport of Polish prisoners to the camp.
Her comment came one day after the EU launched legal action against Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic for refusing to take in their share of refugees under the bloc’s controversial solidarity plan.

She said that a country has a solemn duty to protect its citizents. You disagree?

It really interests me very little as I work in the Middle East and see globalism and corporations as far more powerful than individual states. When you have been in the world lived in other countries and met other peoples, you will understand better. But then, I doubt you will do any of that.

Eh, there's usually more going on then that.

The rank and file "fodder" in everything of this sort usually sticks to the program because they're tangibly benefiting in some way. A paycheck, a nice house, ect..

If they manage to turn the economy around, get everyone employed, and create a nice lifestyle for "the right type of people", then you can worry.

Agreed, I noted "small" group. But I know you know your history and the Nazi party started out as a "marginal group", then they found a young, angry and very talented orator, found a group to target as the enemy of the people, spoke of nationalism and strong identity policies etc. Well, you know the rest.

I don't think we have Nazi 2.0 on our hands, but they shouldn't just be brushed aside as a fad, imo.

In any case, this observation can be made about any marginal group like PEGIDA in Britain or Germany. Actually these groups seem to have more relevance than ONR.

This is also because Polish politics turned to center-right lately and such groups like ONR haves no pull. Law and Justice (rulling party) and Kukiz'15 already pulled conservatives and right-wingers.
