Well...the...
"Token minority" try-hardiness of the ST movies have some people wondering if the pendulum has swung so far to the left that we are actually in racist territory, again.
Meaning, the "left-right" pendulum, on the political spectrum is actually has 3 axes (the horseshoe point).
When it the "we are being super not-racist and sexist and showing diversity" gets out of hand, it comes off as disingenuous and racist (like Michael Scott from The Office trying to show how not racist and inclusive he is type of cringe).
When one of your enemies in the film is even the Aryan Archetype of angry, evil, "white man", it seems that they went waaaaaaaaaaay overboard.
Most movies, I don't notice. I don't care. How many times have I even pointed it out or talked about it? Ever, on KMC? But this is a first.
Star Wars already had a diverse cast and it was natural, anyway. There was no need to force it on the new movies.
Princess Leia? F*cking badass. Always has been. And SEXY badass in the OT, as well.
Mace Windu? Literally the best light saber duelist in the whole canon series. Just so happens that Windu is my favorite Jedi from the PT. I didn't even notice or care about his race until just now. Why? Because we are talking about it.
Anyway, yes, some alt-righters are butthurt over this. They are using what looks like Disney's overly try-hardiness as ammunition. And then the Ess Jay Dubs are using their butthurt to flame the fires and talk about their butthurts.
It's an endless cycle of butthurtiness.
I wish Hux was actually Idris Elba and they redid his character to be more relatable, more competent, more imposing, more serious, and more power-hungry.
Spoiler:
What if when Hux came up on Kylo Ren, after Kylo's fight with Rey, saw him on the ground, and it was revealed that Hux, as played by Idris Elba, was actually another dark side force user that was hiding his abilities and practice from Snoke, and then killed Kylo while pretending to help him up? That'd be nice. 🙂
