What? Did you just try to revise history? The crusades were to reclaim the holy lands. Christians raided, raped, murdered, attacked, and burnt down perfectly innocent and civilized cities.

Similar to how ISIS destroys historical artifacts today, the Christians destroyed libraries of ancient translated manuscripts of math and medicine and philosophy...

It’s true reclaiming the holy land was on the agenda, but the first Crusade were made to actually protect non Muslims. It after the end of the First and maybe in between it became sorely corrupt by the church.

Remember what the Muslims did to constantinople?

No I really wasnt, the Spanish mishandled the Indians by coming here and killing them off, it was wrong.

Another thing, look what the Ottoman Empire was doing. It seems we in the West magically forgets their evils, all the while screaming the evils of the West.

The Ottoaman empire only ended in the mid 1900’s, and we’ve already forgotten about their conquest.

Squallx, just stop.

No one is talking to you.

FF and I may not see eye to eye, but we’re having a discussion. Buzz off.

The evils of the east are well documented, as are the evils of the west. It ultimately doesn’t matter where people are from, they’re all the same

Have you ever thought that this is one big game, and history keeps repeating itself because we as humans always forget and hardly every learn from the past?

Yeah that does often seem to be the case. I like to think that as a species we’re getting a little better though.

Apply that same logic to stopping the tally of "this guy was a Muslim and this guy was a Mexican"

I agree with you as far as ascribing collective guilt to all people within a group goes.

When it comes to policy however, it's important to quantify the effects of immigration so the policy can be debated properly.

There’s nothing wrong with quantification. It’s when you use that data with malicious intent that it becomes a problem.

Before I say anything else... Stop using that apostrophe
And that goes to everyone else too. Whenever anyone uses that apostrophe their post becomes impossible to quote.

Anyways to your point, it depends on what you qualify as malicious intent. If a tighter cap on the number of immigrants per year or more rigorous background checks or raised standards for entry is included, I would disagree that it qualifies as malicious. If someone is saying something like "Yeah **** all Mexicans!" or whatever or some such thing like that then I agree that would be malicious. But I do think there is a solid line between border control/tighter immigration policy and racism.

A tighter cap on the number of immigrants is not necessarily malicious.

Where it becomes malicious is when you use data to argue that the Mexicans crossing the border are rapists, killers and stealing jobs. Then you are tapping into the fears of people for your political gain, and at the same time you are hurting a group of people that are particularly vulnerable.

It IS possible to implement better, more efficient immigration policies that regulate the number of immigrants WITHOUT hurting anyone or demonizing anyone or generalizing entire groups of people.

Another government spending bill. By Golly! As a millennial I sure look forward to the future!
