You know,

seeing all of these kids on TV, knowing my peers in the classroom, I've come to realize just how ignorant people of my generation have become. I was in class the other day and literally nobody knew that tariffs on aluminum and steel were being enacted. This generation has become impervious to anything and everything happening around them that doesn't involve some domestic social issue. How many of the kids protesting today could actually apply political theory to what they're upset about, or become involved in local & state politics on fiscal issues as passionately? The way I see it, this whole anti-gun thing is nothing more than groupthink and an excuse for bored children to feel like they're getting attention.

I've decided that I will have zero issue with manipulating people of my generation for financial gain given that they choose to remain ignorant on so many topics.

good for you

Dude it’s just a bunch of kids begging to not be shot. They’re just kids, calm your a$s down with the political theory. A man in a sinking ship doesn’t need to know the entire history of oceanography to know that he’s in danger.

Anyone who’s raging against these kids for just not wanting to be shot needs to re-examine their life

Yeah 9/11 attacks are rare. Let’s not implement any precautions. Brilliant idea Surt!

A whiny protest is not a precaution. Do better.

So you’re in favor of precautions but not in favor of the protests meant to bring about precautions? Don’t be petty, support these kids and their right to organize for a cause that has directly affected them.

I don't support people who espouse dumb bullshit. I support their right to espouse that bullshit though.

But nah. I do not have any respect for these kids. Not the uninformed ones anyways.

What needs to be decided is... are these kids the mighty intelligent political commentators who we should take seriously but also subject to the full brunt of criticism we would give anyone else? Or are they "just kids" who we should refrain from criticizing and not take their positions seriously?

You can't have it both ways, you can't say "Oh YES they know the way we must listen to them" and then flip it around and go "oh well they're just kids don't be so hard on em."

Shit I just saw some headline that the kids were saying "agree with us or beware".

Yeah...f*ck these kids.

They're not political commentators though, they're a community of people affected by a particular hardship speaking from experiences rooted in their truth. They're just kids voicing their perspectives and that should be listened to without judgement.

Many of these kids are actual victims btw and still getting attacked and demonized by politicians, thay's not right

Lol we shouldn't judge people who espouse uninformed views? That makes no sense.

Hey, should we judge climate change deniers? No, right?

I am against banning a Trans woman from the Women's restroom right?

But if a young girl claimed that a Trans woman abused her in the Women's restroom, I would listen to the girl without judgement. And I certainly wouldn't attack the girl.

You see what I'm saying here?

Honestly, the majority of Americans have lost their right to a "democracy".

""An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people."

Let the corporations take over 🙂

I'd listen too. And if, while I was listening, she spouted a bunch of bullshit and lies...I'd call her out and cease taking her seriously.

If they should be listened to without judgment, then I'm not going to take their positions seriously if I'm not allowed to pass judgment on what they have to say.

I don't agree with demonizing them, but if I'm expected to take what they have to say seriously, then I should be allowed to criticize what they have to say seriously.

I'm not a fan of the notion that victimhood status confers authority on an issue, and how that usually plays out is "I'm a victim so my word carries more weight, but if you criticize me or argue against me you're arguing against the victim and that's wrong, so therefore the only option is agree with me." I'm not a fan of that type of politics.

Criticizing what they say is completely fair. Criticizing them personally is not right.

And any decent compassionate human being has some level of respect for a victim of something bad.

Why should respect be had when that person uses that bad thing that happened to push an agenda?

now you'll be accused of 'virtue signaling'

Nah, just overall stupidity. I don't have to respect you if you take a tragedy and try to use it to manipulate people or push an agenda. Sorry. Do better.
