Depends on your definition of machine gun as the gatling gun was invented in the 1860s and it was considered a hand-cranked machine gun.

Yeah but that design was first dated in 1861, 70 years after the constitution came into effect in 1789, so I don't think Squall meant that gun. I'm curious as to what he means when fully automatic weapons were in use by the time the constitution was written, because I can find no references to any weapons of that type in that time period beyond the Puckle. All I can find is numerous muskets, long rifles, and cannons.

I'm not agreeing with squallx in regards to machine guns already existing when the 2nd amendment was written, I was just pointing out when the first machine gun was built.

Ah fair enough.

Hmm... I'm not sure a hand cranked gatling gun counts as a fully automatic weapon, but it does partly fit the definition, as it is self loading, and can be fired at a fair rate of fire for it's time. But as far as fitting the modern rendition, ddn't the first fully automatic machine guns first start cropping up around the first World War? I may be wrong on that as I havn't looked it up, and it's been a long assed time since I studied those old war books..... 🙁

EDIT: Ah, here we go.

The swedes used the first recoil operated MG, but it was a black powder gun that had a lot of problems. But the granddaddy of the modern MG is the Maxim Gun.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxim_gun

First made in 1884

The first would probably be the Maxim machine gun which was invented in 1883. but it was hardly a man-portable weapon.

Edit: just saw your edit.

Lol, yup, I'd say that puts the Maxim as the first of the modern MGs as we know them.

Surely conservatives are furious about this bullshit?

For me, this is the #1 biggest failure with our immigration system. If you volunteer your life and time in service our the US Military, that's an automatic greencard. Just my opinion.

Edit - And people say that they abuse this system. So what? They still have to be deemed fit and be accepted. If they are...who cares? Let them exploit it for a greencard. It's the least we can do.

Maybe the VA could help veterans with PTSD who've developed drug habits and alcoholism instead of discarding them to Mexico?

He then developed a drug habit his family blames on PTSD and he went to prison for selling cocaine

The only way to pay for a drug habit is by selling drugs sometimes. Have a little empathy for Veterans, they have some of the highest suicide and drug abuse rates for a reason

You would say it is ok to Pay for an Abortion by taking out Assassinations on people next.

Leftists are Truly Horrible Horrible People.

I have a great idea for a story. So an evil demon uses magic to get this teen girl pregnant and she has to go on a quest to find a magic artifact that will allow her to get an abortion because the baby is evil and will destroy the world if born.

Perez "was blown out of his Jeep in Kandahar," and that he suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the blast. Perez told The Chicago Tribune last month that grenade and roadside bomb explosions during his tours led him to lose much of his hearing and suffer headaches.

After returning home from Afghanistan, Perez told the Tribune he longed for the adrenaline rush from combat and eventually turned to cocaine.
