Triggered: Stories to make you mad.

ABC is the one that canceled the show, so they get the credit/blame. they didn't have to cave to the PC morons.

That said, never watched the show. so don't really care.

It seems like first Wanda Sykes quit and then ABC decided to cancel it. But yeah, I never watched it. I mean I remember seeing reruns of the original show though, but not this new one.

Guy says that she looks like a character from Plane of the Apes and I agree:

Roseanne, however, is intelligent and whitty. She knew what she was doing. She knew that even if she definitely 100% for sure meant that particular character, that posting just what she did was incite people to shit themselves and call her racist. So racist or not, there's no way she is stupid enough to not think it wasn't racist. She just didn't care.

I think people just need to chill. No need to be mad.

^See? Valerie Jarrett isn't mad.

Yeah.

This is also not the first time Roseanne has been in hot water over a twitter comment since the show came back. She's said controversial/stupid things a few times where ABC and some of the other staff had to distance themselves from her, then she'd walk it back a bit.

I'm guessing that ABC probably told her after the last one, which was maybe a month ago, that if she did it again they'd cancel the show, based on how quickly they moved to cancel it after this most recent comment. They were very swift in cancelling it, which makes me think they've been somewhat prepared to do it.

Social media has to be the worst thing to hit the entertainment industry lol. In the golden age of Hollywood you'd just pay off newspapers to not write scandalizing stories, though it didn't always work.

Now...you can't control them. The artists themselves can make fools of themselves to millions all within a span of seconds.

Yeah, at best it's a double edged sword. Social media has been integral in bringing back cancelled shows because of fan outcry and their ability to interact directly with the cast/creators and get attention for a show that otherwise wouldn't have been possible, like with Brooklyn 99 and The Expanse. I imagine there's a good chance Firefly would have more than one season if social media was around back when it was canceled. So that's the good side of it.

The bad side is what you say. You can essentially ruin your career in a matter of seconds and torpedo an otherwise good, successful show right out of existence.

True. If I was famous I would just stay away from social media except for official announcements. In fact I wouldn't get political. As Michael Jordan said "Republicans buy shoes too".

Trump is like if Spike from Buffy was aged 30 years and then turned into an ape.

I think that's what the smart celebs do more or less. But even then, all it takes is one costar or cocreator to go and ruin it for everyone. Like with Roseanne, pretty much everyone else on that show kept their opinions to themselves when it came to politics. I genuinely have no idea what John Goodman's politics are, and most of the rest of the cast too. But Roseanne being a loud mouth ruined it for everyone.

And people are giving ABC a bit too much credit here. Like, they didn't cancel it for altruistic or moral reasons. It was a calculation about money and how much of a drag having to deal with a new controversy every month or two would affect their entire lineup, and potentially cost them advertisers. It's a money game, nothing more.

Yeah, and because of the money at stake I wonder if we will ever start to see them try to clamp down in contracts for actors. Like "you can't tweet without studio approval".

Already established entertainers could resist, but could newcomers?

I don't know if legally that is possible. Could be seen as an infringement of freedom of speech, maybe. Would be interesting to see how that played out, though. I could see that going to the supreme court if such a thing ever really took off.

This will serve as a cautionary tale.

And damn it does suck for everyone who lost a job. We maybe need to re-think how we do social media. Though it may be too late.

They'd likely just add it to a star's contract as an extension to the moral clause. IE, if you post/say/do anything we find "immoral' we have the right to fire you.

SM - They likely already do that.

Yeah it does. My gf's friend worked behind the scenes on the show and now she's out of a job. And a number of the actors on the show are not big names who are never really in anything else. So sucks for all those people for sure.

Now I'm not saying there are double standards...

But Bill's show is about being politically incorrect and taking the piss out of the conservatives. Also, the ape joke about Trump is not about Trump's race like calling black people monkeys or apes would be. One is making fun of Trump's physical appearance and another is conjuring up centuries of racist language about Sub-Saharan Africans being more closely related to non-Human apes than other races.

I know, I know, I'm being an SJW apologist and I should feel bad for doing that. Just explaining how all the logic works.

But keep in mind, Rocky said people don't mock Trump in clearly inappropriate ways like they did Trump, right?

You're not being an SJW apologist. The people trying to conflate the two instances are not being sincere.

That said, it's funny that they're targetting Maher of all people. He's one of the left's most staunch defenders of free speech. Won't surprise me in the least if he ends up siding with Roseanne here. He has a habit of being very much against studios trying to silence the celebrities they employ.

If you needed proof government and business are in cahoots:

A court ruled Yelp can manipulate reviews for pay. "Hard bargaining", they said,

Wonder if the judge has stock in Yelp.

Yes, Bill Maher supports free speech. However most other far-left people only support Free Speech when it's someone on their side. To be fair, the same is true on the far right
