Disagreed.

Mesopotamia was what is now modern day Iraq, Kuwait, the eastern parts of Syria, Southeastern Turkey, so a Mesopotamian wouldn't likely be a red head with pale skin and blue eyes.

You could go with the actual depiction if you want to get specific.

And, keep in mind, some of this is owned by the Ancient Greeks, not just the Sumerians - Atargatis is also owned by the ancient Greeks, not just the Assyrians.

Here's your Standard of Ur depiction of Sumerians:

Ancient Greeks, my friend. Not modern Greeks. They look like ancient Greeks.

Also, fair skin is common theme with the most beautiful gods in the pantheons. Red-haired, golden-haired, black-haired, brown-haired, etc. The gods were seen as higher beings and would not appear as the commoners.

And since there is a mythology around Ariel already, her father is Triton. This tells us it is the Ancient Greek depiction. Triton's parents are Amphitrite and Poseidon. We have multiple depictions of what those two God's are supposed to look like. Triton has multiple depictions with some having a beard and some having green hair. Some had red hair and that was probably the inspiration for Ariel's iconic Disney animated hair color.

And no point would it ever be appropriate to cast a sub-saharan African as Ariel unless you are just wanting to virtue signal and pander to SJWs. Which is exactly what this is.

And it's okay because it's just a damn movie and people are getting triggered over it for ridiculous reasons.

Why don't we argue whether or not the easter bunny has white or black fur? Does it have spots?

Looks kinda Jihad-y too me and this was thousands of years before Muhammad (pbuh) the One True Prophet was born:

Disagreed, it's 100% appropriate to do a Black mermaid, cos Ariel's skin color is not integral to her story and mermaids do appear in African cultures as well.

Look at his wrist, is that one of those douches who wears a wristwatch facing the bottom of their wrist?

You didn't pay attention to my last post at all so I just assume you're doing the time-waster trolling game.

And, no, the setting can only be Greek Mythology: her father is Triton. lol

If you want to be ethnically accurate in the physical appearance, Ariel cannot ever be anything but a fair-skinned maiden who has very light skin color with long flowing hair that is green or red. 🙂

You're the one who brought up Atargatis, an ancient Assyria goddess said to be linked with the mermaid myth origins. Google "Assyrian art"; it's not pictures of White looking people.

Ancient Greeks were not red haired and blue eyed either, if you're going that path now.

The Little Mermaid "outrage" just might be a hoax:

YouTube video

It was allegedly started by a confirmed sock. And, there appears to be very little actual complaining of Ariel, compared to complaining about people complaining.

Edit:

Even leftist Salon is skeptical.

Muhammed was a pedophile, a warmonger, and a turd. He was no prophet.

How dare u f*cking claim he isn't a prophet. One time he predicted he'd rape a child and then later that night he raped a child.

He's like a more accurate version of Nostradamus

Nope, those are white people, 100%. Or are you one of those racists who thinks ancient Arabs are black people and the Jews ruined everything?

But it's a red herring. Even in the "origins", it's still white. And their gods are fairer than the common folk.

You didn't read my post or you're trolling. This is completely wrong.

Achilles? Red-gold hair. King Menelaus? Red hair. It's a common theme. Their gods would look like them but be fairer skinned. Restorations of their statues show that when the original pigments of the paints were analyzed. Lotta blonde/blond hair and red hair showing up with very light skin on their painted statues. Odd, right? Not at all if you know the history of Ancient Greece.

Homer described most of the Pantheon as fair-skinned (very light color) and bright-eyed (green, blue, and gray).

And the Ancient Spartans were fair-skinned and fair-haired and took pride in it as a means of differentiating themselves from the darker haired natives.

It wasn't until later on when several invasions happened that you see a more homogeneous "Mediterranean" appearance.

It's what happens.

Disagreed. The men in those stone carvings look closer to our current Arabs than White people.

Achilles, King Menelaus and all the Greek Gods are a myth, using them as proof is silly.

While red hair did appear I'm sure, as it's a mutation that appears in most cultures (I had a red-brown haired Vietnamese kid in my HS) , the ancient Greeks were not generally blonde haired and blue-eyed peoples, aside from the odd person. They were olive skinned and had darker hair, much like today.

Source: DNA Testing Links Modern Greeks to Ancient Minoan and Mycenaean Ancestors

The results showed that not only do modern Greeks share strong ties with Mycenaeans, but that three quarters of the DNA belonging to the Mycenaean and Minoan samples closely correlated with ancient farmers from Turkey—making them genetic siblings. -snip

The team’s DNA testing also revealed that ancient Mycenaeans and Minoans contained DNA traits shared with people from eastern Caucasus (Iran), which may have been the result of migration from the east. The two groups shared similar features, including brown hair and eyes, however the Mycenaean DNA samples did contain shared markers with people from Eastern Europe and Siberia which the Minoans did not, according to Science. -snip

Stamatoyannopoulos told Science that the genetic similarities between modern Greeks and their ancient relatives are “particularly striking given that the Aegean has been a crossroads of civilizations for thousands of years.” -snip

It's officially confirmed: you think Arabs aren't white people. That's racist. I'm not joking.

Using them as proof for what? I think you're missing my point. Let me know what proof I'm using them for.

There's a new classification on MENA "Middle Eastern and North African", removing Arabs from the Caucasian status. edit: Seems it's on the fences though. Either way, ancient Assyrians were not pale-skinned and red headed like Disney's Princess Ariel.

You tried using mythical figures as proof that the Greeks of old were blonde haired and blue/green eyed and fair skinned.

Anyhow, if you want to go with your pigment traces on statues and mythical figures as proof that the ancient Greeks were largely fair skinned, blonde haired and blue/green eyed, go ahead. I'll stick with actual science and DNA evidence. But the notion that the ancient Greeks being more like Scandinavians is romanticized racism of old.
