That's the title yeah? How did that backfire? The truth is that Trump (as POTUS) and lawmakers are the ones in a position to do something, if nothing gets done except "thoughts and prayers" and this happens again and again, then how much do those people in power really care?
Thoughts and prayers are nice, but they don't stop people from amassing firearms and then going on killing sprees. We need an open dialogue on gun reform laws (no, not all guns go away).

Jesus the numbers are staggering and almost beyond belief. 58+ dead and 500+ people injured by one man. And hearing about the man is so strange, still no motive is known, and he apparently has no history of anything weird.
I imagine this will spur much more security in hotels on the strip. Wouldn't be surprised if they all add metal detectors and start checking your luggage like at an airport.
