Abdul “Duke” Fakir, the last surviving member of legendary Motown Records group The Four Tops, who racked up 17 Top 20 singles from 1964-73 including the chart-topping classics “I Can’t Help Myself” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” died today at his home in Detroit. He was 88.

Jerry Miller, one of the most influential musicians in the San Francisco music scene of the 1960s, died Saturday night in Tacoma, Washington, at age 81.

Esta TerBlanche, a star on soap All My Children, died Thursday at her North Hollywood home at age 51. No cause has been established, and authorities believe she had been dead for about a day.

Bill Crook—bassist for the band Spiritbox from 2018 to 2022 has died at 49, according to a social media post by his friend Kai Turmann, guitarist and vocalist for the band A Textbook Tragedy.
Crook was a member of Spiritbox beginning in 2018, and appeared on their debut 2021 album Eternal Blue. In 2022, the band announced Crook’s departure, stating that it was “mutual with no hard feelings.” He was replaced by Josh Gilbert, former bassist of As I Lay Dying.

Lucy-Bleu Knight, daughter of Meegan Hodges and Mark Knight, stepdaughter of Samantha Somers Knight and Slash, sister of Scarlet Knight, stepsister of London and Cash Hudson passed peacefully in Los Angeles at 25.

Patti Yasutake, best known for her roles in Beef and Star Trek: The Next Generation, passed away peacefully on August 5 after a long battle with cancer, she was 70.

Charles Cyphers, best known for his role as Leigh Brackett in the Halloween films, died Sunday, August 4 from a brief illness in Tucson, AZ, he was 85.

Connie Chiume, the South African actor known for her role as tribal leader Zawavari in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther and 2022 sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, died Tuesday at a Johannesburg hospital. She was 72.

Billy Bean, a former Los Angeles Dodger who went on to become the first diversity chief for Major League Baseball, died on Tuesday. He was 60. Major League Baseball said in a statement that the cause was acute myeloid leukemia.

Kevin Sullivan, a pro wrestler who built a persona and considerable fame in the 1980s and ’90s as a devilish villain in KISS-like make-up who battled good guys including Hulk Hogan and Dusty Rhodes, has died. He was 74.

As a villain, Sullivan was a major rival for the ring’s most legendary heroes, including Dusty Rhodes, Hulk Hogan and The Road Warriors. He specialized in leading dangerous factions, which included his wicked Army of Darkness, collegiate bullies The Varsity Club, and the wild Dungeon of Doom, which introduced Big Show to the wrestling world. The onetime ‘Taskmaster’ also became a creative force behind the scenes for WCW.

Chi Chi Rodriguez, considered one of the most charismatic figures in pro golf, has died at age 88.

Rodriguez was one of golf’s great entertainers. His comedic antics included placing his hat over holes as a way to stop the birdies from escaping. After sinking a big putt, he might pretend to sheath his putter at his belt, like a sword that had been used in battle. As a result, he attracted some of the circuit’s largest galleries.

Ángel Salazar, the actor best known as Al Pacino’s trusted sidekick Chi Chi in the 1983 film Scarface, has died. Salazar passed away in his sleep over the weekend he was 68.

Maurice Williams, the lead singer of Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, died Tuesday at the age of 86. No cause was given

Born in Lancaster, South Carolina, Williams went on to form his first group, The Royal Charms, during his high school years.

The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame reported his first major hit in 1957 with the song “Little Darlin’,” which he wrote and recorded with his group, The Gladiolas.

Mitzi McCall, whose five-decade resume in entertainment included 11 films, 14 TV shows and many animated series voice-overs, died August 8 at her home in Studio City, CA, at age 91.

McCall started her entertainment career on the Kiddie Castle program on KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. Moving to Hollywood, she appeared on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In and was also a series regular on such series as Life Goes On and (with her husband) on Silk Stalkings.

She provided the voice of Auntie Marina in the animated series Snorks, the voice of Mother Goose in Mother Goose and Grimm, the voice of Sylvia Jenkins in Free for All, and a variety of voices on The Paw Paws.

McCall made guest appearances on the TV shows Seinfeld, The Twilight Zone, Maude, Dharma & Greg and Chuck, as well as voice-over work for many cartoons. In 1971, she was the voice of Penny on The Flintstones spinoff The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show.

Rachael Lillis, voice actor for Pokémon’s Misty and Team Rocket’s Jessie, has died. She was 46. Lillis died on August 10 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2024.

Lillis also voiced Intress in Chaotic, Thalia in Shadow of the Elves, Jigglypuff in Pokémon, Natalie in Ape Escape 2, Ursula in Dinosaur King, Hela in Cubix — Robots for Everyone, Faragonda in Winx Club, Ohno in Genshiken, and Martina in Slayers Next, among many others.

Deirdre “Didi” O’Hearn, an industry veteran who most recently head of programming and development for Food Network and Cooking Channel, died Monday after a long battle with lung cancer, she was 63.

Peggy Moffitt, the iconic ’60s model who was also a contract player at Paramount and who appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni’s Blow-Up, died at her Beverly Hills home on Saturday from complications of dementia. She was 86.

Jack Russell, the frontman of rock band Great White who survived the 2003 Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island that killed 100 people and injured more than 200 others, has died. He was 63 years old. The cause of death was lewy body dementia and multiple system atrophy.
