John Amos, the actor whose characters in Good Times, Roots and The Mary Tyler Moore Show lent the 1970s a solid share of its too-few portrayals of strong Black male role models, died August 21 in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 84.

Ken Page, one of Broadway’s most familiar character actors who indelibly lent his voice to Tim Burton’s holiday film classic The Nightmare Before Christmas as the villainous Oogie Boogie, died Monday, September 30. He was 70.

Ron Hale, who is best known for his role as Mike Corbin on ABC‘s General Hospital and Port Charles, died August 27 in St. George, SC. He was 78. Hale, a Michigan native, starred on General Hospital from 1995 to 2010 and Port Charles from 1997-2000. He also played Dr. Roger Coleridge on Ryan’s Hope.

Allan Blye, a two-time Emmy winner best known for originating the role of Captain Blye on Mister Rogers Neighborhood and writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, died Oct. 4 in Palm Desert, CA. He was 87.

David Burnham, a former New York Times investigative reporter whose work uncovering corruption in the New York Police Department circa the 1970s inspired the twice Oscar-nominated Serpico, died earlier this week at 91.

Paul Di'Anno, the lead singer of Iron Maiden from 1978 to 1981 which included the heavy metal band’s first two albums, died in England on Monday after suffering ill health in recent years. He was 66.
